# Offset

Alda places notes chronologically by assigning each [note](notes.md) an
**offset**. There are two types of offset: absolute and relative. Absolute
offset expresses the number of ms from the beginning of the score. Relative
offset expresses the number of ms after a [marker](markers.md).
