Mirroring drivers/macintosh/apm_emu.c, this means that
  modprobe apm_power && modprobe $anotherdriver && modprobe -r apm_power
leaves $anotherdriver's apm_get_power_status instead of deleting it.

The X1E80100 battery management firmware sends a notification with
code 0x83 when the battery charging state changes, such as switching
between fast charge, taper charge, end of charge, or any other error
charging states.

The same notification code is used with bit[8] set when charging stops
because the charge control end threshold is reached. Additionally,
a 2-bit value is included in bit[10:9] with the same code to indicate
the charging source capability, which is determined by the calculated
power from voltage and current readings from PDOs: 2 means a strong
charger over 60W, 1 indicates a weak charger, and 0 means there is no
charging source.

These 3-MSB [10:8] in the notification code is not much useful for now,
hence just ignore them and trigger a power supply change event whenever
0x83 notification code is received. This helps to eliminate the unknown
notification error messages.

There are fuel gauges in the bq27xxx series (e.g. bq27z561) which may in some
cases report 0xff as the value of BQ27XXX_REG_FLAGS that should not be
interpreted as "no battery" like for a disconnected battery with some built
in bq27000 chip.

So restrict the no-battery detection originally introduced by

    commit 3dd843e1c2 ("bq27000: report missing device better.")

to the bq27000.

There is no need to backport further because this was hidden before

	commit f16d9fb6cf ("power: supply: bq27xxx: Retrieve again when busy")

Since commit

	commit f16d9fb6cf ("power: supply: bq27xxx: Retrieve again when busy")

the console log of some devices with hdq enabled but no bq27000 battery
(like e.g. the Pandaboard) is flooded with messages like:

[   34.247833] power_supply bq27000-battery: driver failed to report 'status' property: -1

as soon as user-space is finding a /sys entry and trying to read the
"status" property.

It turns out that the offending commit changes the logic to now return the
value of cache.flags if it is <0. This is likely under the assumption that
it is an error number. In normal errors from bq27xxx_read() this is indeed
the case.

But there is special code to detect if no bq27000 is installed or accessible
through hdq/1wire and wants to report this. In that case, the cache.flags
are set historically by

	commit 3dd843e1c2 ("bq27000: report missing device better.")

to constant -1 which did make reading properties return -ENODEV. So everything
appeared to be fine before the return value was passed upwards.

Now the -1 is returned as -EPERM instead of -ENODEV, triggering the error
condition in power_supply_format_property() which then floods the console log.

So we change the detection of missing bq27000 battery to simply set

	cache.flags = -ENODEV

instead of -1.

Jerry LvandGreg Kroah-Hartman 558ba4afdf power: supply: bq27xxx: Retrieve again when busy

Multiple applications may access the battery gauge at the same time, so
the gauge may be busy and EBUSY will be returned. The driver will set a
flag to record the EBUSY state, and this flag will be kept until the next
periodic update. When this flag is set, bq27xxx_battery_get_property()
will just return ENODEV until the flag is updated.

Even if the gauge was busy during the last accessing attempt, returning
ENODEV is not ideal, and can cause confusion in the applications layer.

Instead, retry accessing the I2C to update the flag is as expected, for
the gauge typically recovers from busy state within a few milliseconds.
If still failed to access the gauge, the real error code would be returned
instead of ENODEV (as suggested by Pali Rohár).

Artur WeberandGreg Kroah-Hartman a278a4164b power: supply: max77693: Fix wrong conversion of charge input threshold value

The charge input threshold voltage register on the MAX77693 PMIC accepts
four values: 0x0 for 4.3v, 0x1 for 4.7v, 0x2 for 4.8v and 0x3 for 4.9v.
Due to an oversight, the driver calculated the values for 4.7v and above
starting from 0x0, rather than from 0x1 ([(4700000 - 4700000) / 100000]
gives 0).

Add 1 to the calculation to ensure that 4.7v is converted to a register
value of 0x1 and that the other two voltages are converted correctly as
well.

Size of variable sd_gain equals four bytes - DA9150_QIF_SD_GAIN_SIZE.
Size of variable shunt_val equals two bytes - DA9150_QIF_SHUNT_VAL_SIZE.

The expression sd_gain * shunt_val is currently being evaluated using
32-bit arithmetic. So during the multiplication an overflow may occur.

As the value of type 'u64' is used as storage for the eventual result, put
ULL variable at the first position of each expression in order to give the
compiler complete information about the proper arithmetic to use. According
to C99 the guaranteed width for a variable of type 'unsigned long long' >=
64 bits.

Remove the explicit cast to u64 as it is meaningless.

Just for the sake of consistency, perform the similar trick with another
expression concerning 'iavg'.

call from power_supply_put(). This patch suppresses false positive
complaints about calling a sleeping function from atomic context if
power_supply_put() is called from atomic context.

temp channel 0, causing the hwmon temp1_max_alarm attribute to be
missing from such power_supply devices.

Add this to power_supply_hwmon_info to fix this.

Artur WeberandGreg Kroah-Hartman 508a550eec power: supply: max17042_battery: Fix SOC threshold calc w/ no current sense
[ Upstream commit 3a3acf839b ]

Commit 223a3b8283 ("power: supply: max17042_battery: use VFSOC for
capacity when no rsns") made it so that capacity on systems without
current sensing would be read from VFSOC instead of RepSOC. However,
the SOC threshold calculation still read RepSOC to get the SOC
regardless of the current sensing option state.

Fix this by applying the same conditional to determine which register
should be read.

This also seems to be the intended behavior as per the datasheet - SOC
alert config value in MiscCFG on setups without current sensing is set
to a value of 0b11, indicating SOC alerts being generated based on
VFSOC, instead of 0b00 which indicates SOC alerts being generated based
on RepSOC.

This fixes an issue on the Galaxy S3/Midas boards, where the alert
interrupt would be constantly retriggered, causing high CPU usage
on idle (around ~12%-15%).

As pointed out by Stephen Boyd it is possible that during initialization
of the pmic_glink child drivers, the protection-domain notifiers fires,
and the associated work is scheduled, before the client registration
returns and as a result the local "client" pointer has been initialized.

The outcome of this is a NULL pointer dereference as the "client"
pointer is blindly dereferenced.

which is the lowest supported value.

commit bf9d5cb588 upstream.

The driver returns -ENODEV when the firmware battmrg service hasn't
started yet, while per-se -ENODEV is fine, we usually use -EAGAIN to
tell the user to retry again later. And the power supply core uses
-EGAIN when the device isn't initialized, let's use the same return.

This notably causes an infinite spam of:
thermal thermal_zoneXX: failed to read out thermal zone (-19)
because the thermal core doesn't understand -ENODEV, but only
considers -EAGAIN as a non-fatal error.

While it didn't appear until now, commit [1] fixes thermal core
and no more ignores thermal zones returning an error at first
temperature update.

Since there's no guarantee that all the callbacks can work in atomic
context, switch to use blocking_notifier_call_chain to relax the
constraint.

that there is another refcount leak in the probe function. While
of_node_put() was added in one of the return paths, it should in

Sebastian Reichel 3dc0bab23d power: supply: core: fix use after free in uevent
power_supply_uevent() which is called to emit a udev event on device
deletion attempts to use the power_supply_battery_info structure,
which is device-managed and has been freed before this point.

Fix this by not generating all battery/charger properties when the
device is about to be removed. This also avoids generating errors
when trying to access the hardware in hot-unplug scenarios.

Similar to the rk817 codec alias that was missing, the rk817 charger
driver is missing a module alias as well. This absence prevents the
driver from autoprobing on OF systems when it is built as a module.
