PCI/sysfs: Remove pci_create_legacy_files() and pci_sysfs_init()
Currently, pci_create_legacy_files() and pci_remove_legacy_files() are no-op stubs. With legacy attributes now handled by static groups registered via pcibus_groups[], no call site needs them. Remove both functions, their declarations, and the call sites in pci_register_host_bridge(), pci_alloc_child_bus(), and pci_remove_bus(). Remove the pci_sysfs_init() late_initcall and sysfs_initialized. The late_initcall originally existed to create all the dynamic PCI sysfs files, but with both resource and legacy attributes now handled by static groups, it is no longer needed. Remove the legacy_io and legacy_mem fields from struct pci_bus which were used to track the dynamically allocated legacy attributes. PCI/sysfs: Remove pci_{create,remove}_sysfs_dev_files()
Currently, pci_create_sysfs_dev_files() and pci_remove_sysfs_dev_files() are no-op stubs. With both the generic and Alpha resource files now handled by static attribute groups, no platform needs dynamic per-device sysfs file creation. Remove both functions, their declarations, and the call sites in pci_bus_add_device() and pci_stop_dev(). Remove __weak pci_create_resource_files() and pci_remove_resource_files() stubs and their declarations in pci.h, as no architecture overrides them anymore. Remove the res_attr[] and res_attr_wc[] fields from struct pci_dev which were used to track dynamically allocated resource attributes. Finally, simplify pci_sysfs_init() to only handle legacy file creation under HAVE_PCI_LEGACY, removing the per-device loop and the HAVE_PCI_SYSFS_INIT helper added earlier. PCI/sysfs: Add stubs for pci_{create,remove}_sysfs_dev_files()
On platforms with HAVE_PCI_MMAP or ARCH_GENERIC_PCI_MMAP_RESOURCE, resource files are now handled by static attribute groups registered via pci_dev_groups[]. Stub out the pci_create_sysfs_dev_files() and pci_remove_sysfs_dev_files(), as the dynamic resource file creation is no longer needed. Also, simplify pci_sysfs_init() on these platforms to only iterate buses for legacy attributes creation, skipping the per-device loop. Move the __weak stubs for pci_create_resource_files() and pci_remove_resource_files() into the #else branch since only platforms without HAVE_PCI_MMAP (such as Alpha architecture) still need them. Guard the res_attr[] and res_attr_wc[] fields in struct pci_dev the same way. PCI/sysfs: Convert PCI resource files to static attributes
Currently, the PCI resource files (resourceN, resourceN_wc) are dynamically
created by pci_create_sysfs_dev_files(), called from both
pci_bus_add_device() and the pci_sysfs_init() late_initcall, with only a
sysfs_initialized flag for synchronisation. This has caused warnings and
boot panics when both paths race on the same device, e.g.:
sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/devices/pci0000:3c/0000:3c:01.0/0000:3e:00.2/resource2'
This is especially likely on Devicetree-based platforms, where the PCI host
controllers are platform drivers that probe via the driver model, which can
happen during or after the late_initcall. As such, pci_bus_add_device()
and pci_sysfs_init() are more likely to overlap.
Convert to static const attributes with three attribute groups (I/O, UC,
WC), each with an .is_bin_visible() callback that checks resource flags,
BAR length, and non_mappable_bars. A .bin_size() callback provides
pci_resource_len() to the kernfs node for correct stat and lseek behaviour.
As part of this conversion:
- Rename pci_read_resource_io() and pci_write_resource_io() to
pci_read_resource() and pci_write_resource() since the callbacks are no
longer I/O-specific in the static attribute context.
- Update __resource_resize_store() to use sysfs_create_groups() and
sysfs_remove_groups(), which re-evaluates visibility and runs the
.bin_size() callback for the static resource attribute groups.
- Remove pci_create_resource_files(), pci_remove_resource_files(), and
pci_create_attr() which are no longer needed.
- Move the __weak stubs outside the #if guard so they remain available
for callers converted in subsequent commits.
Platforms that do not define the HAVE_PCI_MMAP macro or the
ARCH_GENERIC_PCI_MMAP_RESOURCE macro, such as Alpha architecture,
continue using their platform-specific resource file creation.
For reference, the dynamic creation dates back to the pre-Git era:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tglx/history.git/commit/drivers/pci/pci-sysfs.c?id=42298be0eeb5ae98453b3374c36161b05a46c5dc
The write-combine support was added in commit

PCI: Indicate context lost if L1SS exit is broken during resume from system suspend
Per PCIe v7.0, sec 5.5.3.3.1, when exiting L1.2 due to an endpoint asserting CLKREQ# signal, the REFCLK must be turned on within the latency advertised in the LTR message. This requirement applies to L1.1 as well. On some platforms like Qcom, these requirements are satisfied during OS runtime, but not while resuming from the system suspend. This happens because the PCIe RC driver may remove all resource votes and turn off the PHY analog circuitry during suspend to maximize power savings while keeping the link in L1SS. Consequently, when the endpoint asserts CLKREQ# to wake up, the RC driver must restore the PHY and enable the REFCLK. When this recovery process exceeds the L1SS exit latency time (roughly L10_REFCLK_ON + T_COMMONMODE), the endpoint may treat it as a fatal condition and trigger Link Down (LDn). This results in a reset that destroys the internal device state. So to indicate this platform limitation to the client drivers, introduce a new flag 'pci_host_bridge::broken_l1ss_resume' and check it in pci_suspend_retains_context(). If the flag is set by the RC driver, the API will return 'false' indicating the client drivers that the device context may not be retained and the drivers must be prepared for context loss. PCI: Add pci_suspend_retains_context() to check if device state is preserved during suspend
Currently, PCI endpoint drivers (e.g. nvme) use pm_suspend_via_firmware() to check whether device state is preserved during system suspend. If firmware will be invoked at the end of suspend, we don't know whether devices will retain their internal state. But device context might be lost due to platform issues as well. Having those checks in endpoint drivers will not scale and will cause a lot of code duplication. Add pci_suspend_retains_context() as a sole point of truth that the endpoint drivers can rely on to check whether they can expect the device context to be retained or not. If pci_suspend_retains_context() returns 'false', drivers need to prepare for context loss by performing actions such as resetting the device, saving the context, shutting it down etc. If it returns 'true', drivers do not need to perform any special action and can leave the device in active state. Right now, this API only incorporates pm_suspend_via_firmware(), but will be extended in future commits. PCI: host-generic: Add common helpers for parsing Root Port properties
Introduce generic helper functions to parse Root Port device tree nodes and extract common properties like reset GPIOs. This allows multiple PCI host controller drivers to share the same parsing logic. Define struct pci_host_port to hold common Root Port properties (currently only list of PERST# GPIO descriptors) and add pci_host_common_parse_ports() to parse Root Port nodes from device tree. Also add the 'ports' list to struct pci_host_bridge to better maintain parsed Root Port information. PCI: Add pci_resource_is_io() and pci_resource_is_mem() helpers

PCI/P2PDMA: Avoid returning a provider for non_mappable_bars
Extend the checks in pcim_p2pdma_init() and pcim_p2pdma_provider() to
exclude functions that have pdev->non_mappable_bars set.
Consumers such as VFIO were previously able to map these for access by the
CPU or P2P. Update the comment on non_mappable_bars to show it refers to
any access, not just userspace CPU access.

- Don't enable AtomicOps for RCiEPs since none of them need Atomic
Ops and we can't tell whether the Root Complex would support them
(Gerd Bayer)
- Leave Precision Time Measurement disabled until a driver enables it

- Make pci_set_vga_state() fail if bridge doesn't support VGA
routing, i.e., PCI_BRIDGE_CTL_VGA is not writable, and return
errors to vga_get() callers including userspace via

Resource management:
- Prevent assigning space to unimplemented bridge windows; previously
we mistakenly assumed prefetchable window existed and assigned
space and put a BAR there (Ahmed Naseef)
- Avoid shrinking bridge windows to fit in the initial Root Port
window; fixes one problem with devices with large BARs connected
via switches, e.g., Thunderbolt (Ilpo Järvinen)
- Pass full extent of empty space, not just the aligned space, to
resource_alignf callback so free space before the requested
alignment can be used (Ilpo Järvinen)
- Place small resources before larger ones for better utilization of
address space (Ilpo Järvinen)
- Fix alignment calculation for resource size larger than align,
e.g., bridge windows larger than the 1MB required alignment (Ilpo
Järvinen)
Reset:
- Update slot handling so all ARI functions are treated as being in
the same slot. They're all reset by Secondary Bus Reset, but
previously drivers of ARI functions that appeared to be on a
non-zero device weren't notified and fatal hardware errors could
result (Keith Busch)
- Make sysfs reset_subordinate hotplug safe to avoid spurious hotplug
events (Keith Busch)
- Hide Secondary Bus Reset ('bus') from sysfs reset_methods if masked
by CXL because it has no effect (Vidya Sagar)

Power control:
- Add UPD720201/UPD720202 USB 3.0 xHCI Host Controller .compatible so
generic pwrctrl driver can control it (Neil Armstrong)
Hotplug:

doesn't complain when setting brightness fails because the endpoint
is gone (Richard Cheng)
Peer-to-peer DMA:
- Allow wildcards in list of host bridges that support peer-to-peer
DMA between hierarchy domains and add all Google SoCs (Jacob

PCI: use generic driver_override infrastructure
When a driver is probed through __driver_attach(), the bus' match()
callback is called without the device lock held, thus accessing the
driver_override field without a lock, which can cause a UAF.
Fix this by using the driver-core driver_override infrastructure taking
care of proper locking internally.
Note that calling match() from __driver_attach() without the device lock
held is intentional. [1]

PCI: Align head space better
When a bridge window contains big and small resource(s), the small resource(s) may not amount to the half of the size of the big resource which would allow calculate_head_align() to shrink the head alignment. This results in always placing the small resource(s) after the big resource. In general, it would be good to be able to place the small resource(s) before the big resource to achieve better utilization of the address space. In the cases where the large resource can only fit at the end of the window, it is even required. However, carrying the information over from pbus_size_mem() and calculate_head_align() to __pci_assign_resource() and pcibios_align_resource() is not easy with the current data structures. A somewhat hacky way to move the non-aligning tail part to the head is possible within pcibios_align_resource(). The free space between the start of the free space span and the aligned start address can be compared with the non-aligning remainder of the size. If the free space is larger than the remainder, placing the remainder before the start address is possible. This relocation should generally work, because PCI resources consist only power-of-2 atoms. Various arch requirements may still need to override the relocation, so the relocation is only applied selectively in such cases. PCI: Allow all bus devices to use the same slot
A PCIe hotplug slot applies to the entire secondary bus. Thus, pciehp only
allocates a single hotplug_slot for the bridge to that bus. The existing
PCI slot, though, would only match to functions on device 0, meaning any
devices beyond that, e.g., ARI functions, are not matched to any slot even
though they share it. A slot reset will break all the missing devices
because the handling skips them.
For example, ARI devices with more than 8 functions fail because their
state is not properly handled, nor is the attached driver notified of the
reset. In the best case, the device will appear unresponsive to the driver,
resulting in unexpected errors. A worse possibility may panic the kernel if
in-flight transactions trigger hardware reported errors like this real
observation:

Allow a slot to be created to claim all devices on a bus, not just a
matching device. This is done by introducing a sentinel value, named
PCI_SLOT_ALL_DEVICES, which then has the PCI slot match to any device on
the bus. This fixes slot resets for pciehp.
Since 0xff already has special meaning, the chosen value for this new
feature is 0xfe. This will not clash with any actual slot number since they
are limited to 5 bits.

PCI/PTM: Do not enable PTM automatically for Root and Switch Upstream Ports
Currently we enable PTM automatically for Root and Switch Upstream Ports if the advertised capabilities support the relevant role. However, there are a few issues with this. First of all, if there is no Endpoint that actually needs the PTM functionality, this is just wasting link bandwidth. There are just a couple of drivers calling pci_ptm_enable() in the tree. Secondly, we do the enablement in pci_ptm_init() that is called pretty early for the Switch Upstream Port before Downstream Ports are even enumerated. Since the Upstream Port configuration affects the whole Switch, enabling it this early might cause PTM requests to be sent. We actually do see effects of this: pcieport 0000:00:07.1: pciehp: Slot(6-1): Card present pcieport 0000:00:07.1: pciehp: Slot(6-1): Link Up pci 0000:2c:00.0: [8086:5786] type 01 class 0x060400 PCIe Switch Upstream Port ... pci 0000:2c:00.0: PTM enabled, 4ns granularity At this point we have only enumerated the Switch Upstream Port and now PTM got enabled which immediately triggers a flood of errors: pcieport 0000:00:07.1: AER: Multiple Uncorrectable (Non-Fatal) error message received from 0000:00:07.1 pcieport 0000:00:07.1: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Uncorrectable (Non-Fatal), type=Transaction Layer, (Receiver ID) pcieport 0000:00:07.1: device [8086:d44f] error status/mask=00200000/00000000 pcieport 0000:00:07.1: [21] ACSViol (First) pcieport 0000:00:07.1: AER: TLP Header: 0x34000000 0x00000052 0x00000000 0x00000000 pcieport 0000:00:07.1: AER: device recovery successful pcieport 0000:00:07.1: AER: Uncorrectable (Non-Fatal) error message received from 0000:00:07.1 In the above TLP Header the Requester ID is 0 which causes an error as we have ACS Source Validation enabled. Change the PTM enablement to happen at the time pci_enable_ptm() is called. It will try to enable PTM first for upstream devices before enabling for the Endpoint itself. For disable path we need to keep count of how many times PTM has been enabled and disable it only on the last, so change the dev->ptm_enabled to a counter (and rename it to dev->ptm_enable_cnt analogous to dev->pci_enable_cnt). Pull MSI updates from Thomas Gleixner:
"Updates for the [PCI] MSI subsystem:
- Add interrupt redirection infrastructure
Some PCI controllers use a single demultiplexing interrupt for the
MSI interrupts of subordinate devices.
This prevents setting the interrupt affinity of device interrupts,
which causes device interrupts to be delivered to a single CPU.
That obviously is counterproductive for multi-queue devices and
interrupt balancing.
To work around this limitation the new infrastructure installs a
dummy irq_set_affinity() callback which captures the affinity mask
and picks a redirection target CPU out of the mask.
When the PCI controller demultiplexes the interrupts it invokes a
new handling function in the core, which either runs the interrupt
handler in the context of the target CPU or delegates it to
irq_work on the target CPU.
- Utilize the interrupt redirection mechanism in the PCI DWC host
controller driver.
This allows affinity control for the subordinate device MSI
interrupts instead of being randomly executed on the CPU which runs

- Replace the binary 64-bit MSI flag with a DMA mask
Some PCI devices have PCI_MSI_FLAGS_64BIT in the MSI capability,
but implement less than 64 address bits. This breaks on platforms
where such a device is assigned an MSI address higher than what's
supported.
With the binary 64-bit flag there is no other choice than disabling
64-bit MSI support which leaves the device disfunctional.
By using a DMA mask the address limit of a device can be described
correctly which provides support for the above scenario.

radeon drivers to enable them on affected platforms

Merge tag 'kthread-for-7.0' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/frederic/linux-dynticks
Pull kthread updates from Frederic Weisbecker: "The kthread code provides an infrastructure which manages the preferred affinity of unbound kthreads (node or custom cpumask) against housekeeping (CPU isolation) constraints and CPU hotplug events. One crucial missing piece is the handling of cpuset: when an isolated partition is created, deleted, or its CPUs updated, all the unbound kthreads in the top cpuset become indifferently affine to _all_ the non-isolated CPUs, possibly breaking their preferred affinity along the way. Solve this with performing the kthreads affinity update from cpuset to the kthreads consolidated relevant code instead so that preferred affinities are honoured and applied against the updated cpuset isolated partitions. The dispatch of the new isolated cpumasks to timers, workqueues and kthreads is performed by housekeeping, as per the nice Tejun's suggestion. As a welcome side effect, HK_TYPE_DOMAIN then integrates both the set from boot defined domain isolation (through isolcpus=) and cpuset isolated partitions. Housekeeping cpumasks are now modifiable with a specific RCU based synchronization. A big step toward making nohz_full= also mutable through cpuset in the future" * tag 'kthread-for-7.0' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/frederic/linux-dynticks: (33 commits) doc: Add housekeeping documentation kthread: Document kthread_affine_preferred() kthread: Comment on the purpose and placement of kthread_affine_node() call kthread: Honour kthreads preferred affinity after cpuset changes sched/arm64: Move fallback task cpumask to HK_TYPE_DOMAIN sched: Switch the fallback task allowed cpumask to HK_TYPE_DOMAIN kthread: Rely on HK_TYPE_DOMAIN for preferred affinity management kthread: Include kthreadd to the managed affinity list kthread: Include unbound kthreads in the managed affinity list kthread: Refine naming of affinity related fields PCI: Remove superfluous HK_TYPE_WQ check sched/isolation: Remove HK_TYPE_TICK test from cpu_is_isolated() cpuset: Remove cpuset_cpu_is_isolated() timers/migration: Remove superfluous cpuset isolation test cpuset: Propagate cpuset isolation update to timers through housekeeping cpuset: Propagate cpuset isolation update to workqueue through housekeeping PCI: Flush PCI probe workqueue on cpuset isolated partition change sched/isolation: Flush vmstat workqueues on cpuset isolated partition change sched/isolation: Flush memcg workqueues on cpuset isolated partition change cpuset: Update HK_TYPE_DOMAIN cpumask from cpuset ... |

PCI: Flush PCI probe workqueue on cpuset isolated partition change
The HK_TYPE_DOMAIN housekeeping cpumask is now modifiable at runtime. In order to synchronize against PCI probe works and make sure that no asynchronous probing is still pending or executing on a newly isolated CPU, the housekeeping subsystem must flush the PCI probe works. However the PCI probe works can't be flushed easily since they are queued to the main per-CPU workqueue pool. Solve this with creating a PCI probe-specific pool and provide and use the appropriate flushing API. PCI/MSI: Convert the boolean no_64bit_msi flag to a DMA address mask
Some PCI devices have PCI_MSI_FLAGS_64BIT in the MSI capability, but implement less than 64 address bits. This breaks on platforms where such a device is assigned an MSI address higher than what's supported. Currently, no_64bit_msi bit is set for these devices, meaning that only 32-bit MSI addresses are allowed for them. However, on some platforms the MSI doorbell address is above the 32-bit limit but within the addressable range of the device. As a first step to enable MSI on those combinations of devices and platforms, convert the boolean no_64bit_msi flag to a DMA mask and fixup the affected usage sites: - no_64bit_msi = 1 -> msi_addr_mask = DMA_BIT_MASK(32) - no_64bit_msi = 0 -> msi_addr_mask = DMA_BIT_MASK(64) - if (no_64bit_msi) -> if (msi_addr_mask < DMA_BIT_MASK(64)) Since no values other than DMA_BIT_MASK(32) and DMA_BIT_MASK(64) are used, this is functionally equivalent. This prepares for changing the binary decision between 32 and 64 bit to a DMA mask based decision which allows to support systems which have a DMA address space less than 64bit but a MSI doorbell address above the 32-bit limit. PCI: Introduce pcie_is_cxl()
CXL is a protocol that runs on top of PCIe electricals. Its error model
also runs on top of the PCIe AER error model by standardizing "internal"
errors as "CXL" errors. Linux has historically ignored internal errors.
CXL protocol error handling is then a task of enhancing the PCIe AER
core to understand that PCIe ports (upstream and downstream) and
endpoints may throw internal errors that represent standard CXL protocol
errors.
The proposed method to make that determination is to teach 'struct
pci_dev' to cache when its link has trained the CXL.mem and/or CXL.cache
protocols and then treat all internal errors as CXL errors. A design
goal is to not burden the PCIe AER core with CXL knowledge beyond just
enough to forward error notifications to the CXL RAS core. The forwarded
notification looks up a 'struct cxl_port' or 'struct cxl_dport'
companion device to the PCI device.
Introduce set_pcie_cxl() with logic checking for CXL.mem or CXL.cache
status in the CXL Flex Bus DVSEC status register. The CXL Flex Bus DVSEC
presence is used because it is required for all the CXL PCIe devices.[1]

PCI: Add PCI_BRIDGE_NO_ALIAS quirk for ASPEED AST1150
ASPEED BMC controllers have VGA and USB functions behind a PCIe-to-PCI
bridge that causes them to share the same StreamID:
[e0]---00.0-[e1-e2]----00.0-[e2]--+-00.0 ASPEED Graphics Family
\-02.0 ASPEED USB Controller
Both devices get StreamID 0x5e200 due to bridge aliasing, causing the USB
controller to be rejected with 'Aliasing StreamID unsupported'.
Per ASPEED, the AST1150 doesn't use a real PCI bus and always forwards
the original Requester ID from downstream devices rather than replacing
it with any alias.
Add a new PCI_DEV_FLAGS_PCI_BRIDGE_NO_ALIAS flag and apply it to the
AST1150.

Pull PCIe Link Encryption and Device Authentication from Dan Williams:
"New PCI infrastructure and one architecture implementation for PCIe
link encryption establishment via platform firmware services.
This work is the result of multiple vendors coming to consensus on
some core infrastructure (thanks Alexey, Yilun, and Aneesh!), and
three vendor implementations, although only one is included in this
pull. The PCI core changes have an ack from Bjorn, the crypto/ccp/
changes have an ack from Tom, and the iommu/amd/ changes have an ack
from Joerg.
PCIe link encryption is made possible by the soup of acronyms
mentioned in the shortlog below. Link Integrity and Data Encryption
(IDE) is a protocol for installing keys in the transmitter and
receiver at each end of a link. That protocol is transported over Data
Object Exchange (DOE) mailboxes using PCI configuration requests.
The aspect that makes this a "platform firmware service" is that the
key provisioning and protocol is coordinated through a Trusted
Execution Envrionment (TEE) Security Manager (TSM). That is either
firmware running in a coprocessor (AMD SEV-TIO), or quasi-hypervisor
software (Intel TDX Connect / ARM CCA) running in a protected CPU
mode.
Now, the only reason to ask a TSM to run this protocol and install the
keys rather than have a Linux driver do the same is so that later, a
confidential VM can ask the TSM directly "can you certify this
device?".
That precludes host Linux from provisioning its own keys, because host
Linux is outside the trust domain for the VM. It also turns out that
all architectures, save for one, do not publish a mechanism for an OS
to establish keys in the root port. So "TSM-established link
encryption" is the only cross-architecture path for this capability
for the foreseeable future.
This unblocks the other arch implementations to follow in v6.20/v7.0,
once they clear some other dependencies, and it unblocks the next
phase of work to implement the end-to-end flow of confidential device
assignment. The PCIe specification calls this end-to-end flow Trusted
Execution Environment (TEE) Device Interface Security Protocol
(TDISP).
In the meantime, Linux gets a link encryption facility which has
practical benefits along the same lines as memory encryption. It
authenticates devices via certificates and may protect against
interposer attacks trying to capture clear-text PCIe traffic.
Summary:
- Introduce the PCI/TSM core for the coordination of device
authentication, link encryption and establishment (IDE), and later
management of the device security operational states (TDISP).
Notify the new TSM core layer of PCI device arrival and departure
- Add a low level TSM driver for the link encryption establishment
capabilities of the AMD SEV-TIO architecture
- Add a library of helpers TSM drivers to use for IDE establishment
and the DOE transport
