Shardul Deshpande 07669b0abe treewide: fix transposed "sign" typos and update spelling.txt
Several comments transpose the letters in "assigned" and "unsigned",
spelling them with "sing" instead of "sign". Correct all of them.

Of these, the misspelling of "assigned" is not yet flagged by checkpatch,
so also add it to scripts/spelling.txt.

The remaining matches of `grep -ri singed` are RISINGEDGE register and
enum names, not typos.

Sechang Lim 50dff00615 bpf: Fix NULL pointer dereference in bpf_task_from_vpid()
bpf_task_from_vpid() looks up a task in the pid namespace of the

Kaitao Cheng 4a7910ee06 bpf: Clear rb node linkage when freeing bpf_rb_root
bpf_rb_root_free() detaches the root by copying the current rb_root_cached
and then replacing the live root with RB_ROOT_CACHED. It then walks the
copied root and drops each object contained in the tree.

This leaves the rb node state intact while dropping the object. If the
object is refcounted and survives the drop, its bpf_rb_node_kern still
contains an owner pointer to the freed root and stale rb tree linkage. If
a later bpf_rb_root allocation reuses the same address, bpf_rbtree_remove()
can incorrectly pass the owner check and call rb_erase_cached() on a node
whose rb pointers belong to the old tree.

Mirror the list draining behavior by marking nodes as busy while the root
is being detached, then clear the rb node and release the owner before
dropping the containing object. This makes surviving nodes unowned and
safe to reject from remove or accept for a later add.

Amery Hung bcfcb15fde bpf: Unify release handling for helpers and kfuncs
Introduce release_reg() to consolidate the release logic shared by both
helpers and kfuncs: dynptr release, kptr_xchg percpu-to-RCU conversion,
regular reference release, and NULL pass-through. NULL pass-through is
only allowed if the prototype indicates the argument may be null.

Determine release_regno from the function prototype/metadata before
argument checking, rather than discovering it dynamically during
argument processing. For helpers, scan the arg_type array in
check_func_proto() via check_proto_release_reg(). For kfuncs, set
release_regno to BPF_REG_1 in bpf_fetch_kfunc_arg_meta() when
KF_RELEASE is set. In the future when we start adding decl_tag to
kfunc arguments, we can just look at the function prototype instead
of a release_regno.

Extract ref_convert_alloc_rcu_protected() and
invalidate_rcu_protected_refs() to make it more clear what the code is
doing. For ref_convert_alloc_rcu_protected(), it pre-converts
MEM_ALLOC | MEM_PERCPU registers to MEM_RCU (clearing id so they
survive), then calls release_reference() to invalidate the remaining
registers and release the reference state.

Add KF_RELEASE to bpf_dynptr_file_discard() so its release_regno is set
via fetch_kfunc_meta rather than being assigned manually in the dynptr
argument processing. Set arg_type to ARG_PTR_TO_DYNPTR for
KF_ARG_PTR_TO_DYNPTR so that check_func_arg_reg_off() correctly allows
non-zero stack offsets for dynptr release arguments same as helper.

Kaitao Cheng 745515d386 bpf: add bpf_list_is_first/last/empty kfuncs
Add three kfuncs for BPF linked list queries:
- bpf_list_is_first(head, node): true if node is the first in the list.
- bpf_list_is_last(head, node): true if node is the last in the list.
- bpf_list_empty(head): true if the list has no entries.

Currently, without these kfuncs, to implement the above functionality
it is necessary to first call bpf_list_pop_front/back to retrieve the
first or last node before checking whether the passed-in node was the
first or last one. After the check, the node had to be pushed back into
the list using bpf_list_push_front/back, which was very inefficient.

Now, with the bpf_list_is_first/last/empty kfuncs, we can directly
check whether a node is the first, last, or whether the list is empty,
without having to first retrieve the node.

Kaitao Cheng a3493ca504 bpf: Add bpf_list_add to insert node after a given list node
Add a new kfunc bpf_list_add(head, new, prev, meta, off) that
inserts 'new' after 'prev' in the BPF linked list. Both must be in
the same list; 'prev' must already be in the list. The new node must
be an owning reference (e.g. from bpf_obj_new); the kfunc consumes
that reference and the node becomes non-owning once inserted.

We have added an additional parameter bpf_list_head *head to
bpf_list_add, as the verifier requires the head parameter to
check whether the lock is being held.

Returns 0 on success, -EINVAL if 'prev' is not in a list or 'new'
is already in a list (or duplicate insertion). On failure, the
kernel drops the passed-in node.

Kaitao Cheng cfa6afa4b9 bpf: clear list node owner and unlink before drop
The issue only becomes exposed once bpf_list_del() is available: callers
can pass an arbitrary bpf_list_head and bpf_list_node pair, including
nodes that are not actually linked to the supplied head, or nodes that
outlive their original head after refcount-based retention. This was
not practically reachable for callers restricted to pop-style helpers
alone; bpf_list_del() widens the API surface.

A failure mode appears when bpf_list_head_free() runs while a program
still holds an independent refcount on a node (for example via
bpf_refcount_acquire()). The list head value embedded in map memory can
go away while the node object survives. If node->owner is left pointing
at the old head address until drop completes, that pointer becomes stale.
If a new bpf_list_head is later allocated at the same address and the
stale node is passed to bpf_list_del(), the owner comparison can succeed
even though the node is not really linked to the new head, and
list_del_init() will follow bogus next/prev pointers with the risk of
memory corruption.

When draining a bpf_list_head, mark each node owner with BPF_PTR_POISON
under the map spinlock while moving it to a private drain list, then
list_del_init() the node and clear owner to NULL before calling
__bpf_obj_drop_impl(). Concurrent readers therefore never observe a
node that appears linked to a head while its list_head is inconsistent,
and surviving refcounted nodes never retain a stale non-NULL owner.

Yonghong Song 18a37465b0 bpf,x86: Fix exception unwinding with outgoing stack arguments
When a main program with exception_boundary has outgoing stack
arguments (e.g. from calling subprogs with >5 args), bpf_throw() fails
to correctly restore callee-saved registers, causing a kernel crash.

The x86 JIT allocates the outgoing stack arg area below the
callee-saved registers via 'sub rsp, outgoing_rsp' in the prologue.
When bpf_throw() unwinds, it captures the main program's sp (which
includes this outgoing area) and passes it to the exception callback.
The callback gets rsp and rbp, followed by pop_callee_regs, but rsp
points into the outgoing arg area rather than the callee-saved
registers, so the pops restore garbage values. Returning to the
kernel with corrupted callee-saved registers causes a crash.

Fix this by adjusting the sp (adding stack_arg_sp_adjust) passed to
the exception callback, so it points to the bottom of the callee-saved
registers instead of the outgoing arg area. When stack_arg_sp_adjust
is 0 (the common case), this is a no-op.

Amery Hung 31f61ac330 bpf: Refactor dynptr mutability tracking
Redefine dynptr mutability and fix inconsistency in the verifier and
kfunc signatures. Dynptr mutability is at two levels. The first is
the bpf_dynptr structure and the second is the memory the dynptr points
to. The verifer currently tracks the mutability of the bpf_dynptr struct
through helper and kfunc prototypes, where "const struct bpf_dynptr *"
means the structure itself is immutable. The second level is tracked
in upper bit of bpf_dynptr->size in runtime and is not changed in this
patch.

There are two type of inconsistency in the verfier regarding the
mutability of the bpf_dynptr struct. First, there are many existing
kfuncs whose prototypes are wrong. For example, bpf_dynptr_adjust()
mutates a dynptr's start and offset but marks the argument as a const
pointer. At the same time many other kfuncs that does not mutate the
dynptr but mark themselves as mutable. Second, the verifier currently
does not honor the const qualifier in kfunc prototypes as it determines
whether tagging the arg_type with MEM_RDONLY or not based on the register
state.

Since all the verifier care is to prevent CONST_PTR_TO_DYNPTR from
being destroyed in callback and global subprogram, redefine the
mutability at the bpf_dynptr level to just bpf_dynptr_kern->data. Then,
explicitly prohibit passing CONST_PTR_TO_DYNPTR to an argument tagged
with MEM_UNINIT or OBJ_RELEASE. The mutability of a dynptr's view is not
really interesting so drop MEM_RDONLY annotation for dynptr from the
helpers and kfuncs. Plus, if the mutability of the entire bpf_dynptr
were to be done correctly, it would kill the bpf_dynptr_adjust() usage
in callback and global subporgram.

Implementation wise

- First, make sure all kfunc arg are correctly tagged: Tag the dynptr
  argument of bpf_dynptr_file_discard() with OBJ_RELEASE.
- Then, in process_dynptr_func(), make sure CONST_PTR_TO_DYNPTR cannot
  be passed to argument tagged with MEM_UNINIT or OBJ_RELEASE. For
  MEM_UNINIT, it is already checked by is_dynptr_reg_valid_uninit().
  For OBJ_RELEASE, check against OBJ_RELEASE instead of MEM_RDONLY and
  drop a now identical check in unmark_stack_slots_dynptr().
- Remove the mutual exclusive check between MEM_UNINIT and MEM_RDONLY,
  but don't add a MEM_UNINIT and OBJ_RELEASE version as it is obviously
  wrong.

Note that while this patch stops following the C semantic for the
mutability of bpf_dynptr, the prototype of kfuncs are still fixed to
maintain the correct C semantics in the implementation. Adding or
removing the const qualifier does not break backward compatibility.
In addition, fix kfuncs dropping the const qualifier when casting the
opaque bpf_dynptr to bpf_dynptr_kern.

In test_kfunc_dynptr_param.c, initialize dynptr to 0 to avoid
-Wuninitialized-const-pointer warning.

bpf_task_work_irq(). The function only accesses ctx struct members
(not map values), so tasks trace protection is not needed - regular
RCU is sufficient since ctx is freed via kfree_rcu. The guard in
bpf_task_work_callback() remains as tasks trace since it accesses map
values from process context.

Sleepable BPF programs hold rcu_read_lock_trace but not
regular rcu_read_lock. Since kfree_rcu
waits for a regular RCU grace period, the ctx memory can be freed
while a sleepable program is still running. Add scoped_guard(rcu)
around the pointer read and refcount tryget in
bpf_task_work_acquire_ctx to close this race window.

Since kfree_rcu uses call_rcu internally which is not safe from
NMI context, defer destruction via irq_work when irqs are disabled.

For the lost-cmpxchg path the ctx was never published, so
kfree_nolock is safe.

Ihor Solodrai d457072576 bpf: Support struct btf_struct_meta via KF_IMPLICIT_ARGS
The following kfuncs currently accept void *meta__ign argument:
  * bpf_obj_new_impl
  * bpf_obj_drop_impl
  * bpf_percpu_obj_new_impl
  * bpf_percpu_obj_drop_impl
  * bpf_refcount_acquire_impl
  * bpf_list_push_back_impl
  * bpf_list_push_front_impl
  * bpf_rbtree_add_impl

The __ign suffix is an indicator for the verifier to skip the argument
in check_kfunc_args(). Then, in fixup_kfunc_call() the verifier may
set the value of this argument to struct btf_struct_meta *
kptr_struct_meta from insn_aux_data.

BPF programs must pass a dummy NULL value when calling these kfuncs.

Additionally, the list and rbtree _impl kfuncs also accept an implicit
u64 argument, which doesn't require __ign suffix because it's a
scalar, and BPF programs explicitly pass 0.

Add new kfuncs with KF_IMPLICIT_ARGS [1], that correspond to each
_impl kfunc accepting meta__ign. The existing _impl kfuncs remain
unchanged for backwards compatibility.

To support this, add "btf_struct_meta" to the list of recognized
implicit argument types in resolve_btfids.

Implement is_kfunc_arg_implicit() in the verifier, that determines
implicit args by inspecting both a non-_impl BTF prototype of the
kfunc.

Update the special_kfunc_list in the verifier and relevant checks to
support both the old _impl and the new KF_IMPLICIT_ARGS variants of
btf_struct_meta users.

Linus Torvalds bf4afc53b7 Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using

    git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
        xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from

avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:

Single allocations:	kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)

Array allocations:	kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)

Flex array allocations:	kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)

(where TYPE may also be *VAR)

The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Kumar Kartikeya Dwivedi 81502d7f20 bpf: Check for running wq callback when freeing bpf_async_cb
When freeing a bpf_async_cb in bpf_async_cb_rcu_tasks_trace_free(), in
case the wq callback is not scheduled, doing cancel_work() currently
returns false and leads to retry of RCU tasks trace grace period. If the
callback is never scheduled, we keep retrying indefinitely and don't put
the prog reference.

Since the only race we care about here is against a potentially running
wq callback in the first grace period, it should finish by the second
grace period, hence check work_busy() result to detect presence of
running wq callback if it's not pending, otherwise free the object
immediately without retrying.

Reasoning behind the check and its correctness with racing wq callback
invocation: cancel_work is supposed to be synchronized, hence calling it
first and getting false would mean that work is definitely not pending,
at this point, either the work is not scheduled at all or already
running, or we race and it already finished by the time we checked for
it using work_busy(). In case it is running, we synchronize using
pool->lock to check the current work running there, if we match, it
means we extend the wait by another grace period using retry = true,
otherwise either the work already finished running or was never
scheduled, so we can free the bpf_async_cb right away.

 * Retry loop:
    1. Each iteration acquires a new prog reference and stores it
       in cb->prog via xchg. The previous prog is released.
    2. The loop condition checks if both cb->prog and cb->callback_fn
       match what we just wrote. If either differs, a concurrent writer
       overwrote our value, and we must retry.
    3. When we retry, our previously-stored prog was already released by

       overwriting.
 * Release guard reference.

Zesen Liu 802eef5afb bpf: Fix memory access flags in helper prototypes
After commit 37cce22dbd ("bpf: verifier: Refactor helper access type tracking"),
the verifier started relying on the access type flags in helper
function prototypes to perform memory access optimizations.

Currently, several helper functions utilizing ARG_PTR_TO_MEM lack the
corresponding MEM_RDONLY or MEM_WRITE flags. This omission causes the
verifier to incorrectly assume that the buffer contents are unchanged
across the helper call. Consequently, the verifier may optimize away
subsequent reads based on this wrong assumption, leading to correctness
issues.

For bpf_get_stack_proto_raw_tp, the original MEM_RDONLY was incorrect
since the helper writes to the buffer. Change it to ARG_PTR_TO_UNINIT_MEM
which correctly indicates write access to potentially uninitialized memory.

Similar issues were recently addressed for specific helpers in commit
ac44dcc788 ("bpf: Fix verifier assumptions of bpf_d_path's output buffer")
and commit 2eb7648558 ("bpf: Specify access type of bpf_sysctl_get_name args").

Fix these prototypes by adding the correct memory access flags.

Puranjay Mohan a069190b59 bpf: Replace __opt annotation with __nullable for kfuncs
The __opt annotation was originally introduced specifically for
buffer/size argument pairs in bpf_dynptr_slice() and
bpf_dynptr_slice_rdwr(), allowing the buffer pointer to be NULL while
still validating the size as a constant. The __nullable annotation
serves the same purpose but is more general and is already used
throughout the BPF subsystem for raw tracepoints, struct_ops, and other
kfuncs.

This patch unifies the two annotations by replacing __opt with
__nullable. The key change is in the verifier's
get_kfunc_ptr_arg_type() function, where mem/size pair detection is now
performed before the nullable check. This ensures that buffer/size
pairs are correctly classified as KF_ARG_PTR_TO_MEM_SIZE even when the
buffer is nullable, while adding an !arg_mem_size condition to the
nullable check prevents interference with mem/size pair handling.

When processing KF_ARG_PTR_TO_MEM_SIZE arguments, the verifier now uses
is_kfunc_arg_nullable() instead of the removed is_kfunc_arg_optional()
to determine whether to skip size validation for NULL buffers.

This is the first documentation added for the __nullable annotation,
which has been in use since it was introduced but was previously
undocumented.

No functional changes to verifier behavior - nullable buffer/size pairs
continue to work exactly as before.

   - Allow constantly busy flows to migrate to a more suitable CPU/NIC
     queue.

     Normally we perform queue re-selection when flow comes out of idle,
     but under extreme circumstances the flows may be constantly busy.

     Add sysctl to allow periodic rehashing even if it'd risk packet
     reordering.

   - Optimize the NAPI skb cache, make it larger, use it in more paths.

   - Attempt returning Tx skbs to the originating CPU (like we already
     did for Rx skbs).

   - Various data structure layout and prefetch optimizations from Eric.

   - Remove ktime_get() from the recvmsg() fast path, ktime_get() is
     sadly quite expensive on recent AMD machines.

   - Extend threaded NAPI polling to allow the kthread busy poll for
     packets.

   - Make MPTCP use Rx backlog processing. This lowers the lock
     pressure, improving the Rx performance.

   - Support memcg accounting of MPTCP socket memory.

   - Allow admin to opt sockets out of global protocol memory accounting
     (using a sysctl or BPF-based policy). The global limits are a poor
     fit for modern container workloads, where limits are imposed using
     cgroups.

   - Improve heuristics for when to kick off AF_UNIX garbage collection.

   - Allow users to control TCP SACK compression, and default to 33% of
     RTT.

   - Add tcp_rcvbuf_low_rtt sysctl to let datacenter users avoid
     unnecessarily aggressive rcvbuf growth and overshot when the
     connection RTT is low.

   - Preserve skb metadata space across skb_push / skb_pull operations.

   - Support for IPIP encapsulation in the nftables flowtable offload.

   - Support appending IP interface information to ICMP messages (RFC
     5837).

   - Support setting max record size in TLS (RFC 8449).

   - Remove taking rtnl_lock from RTM_GETNEIGHTBL and RTM_SETNEIGHTBL.

   - Use a dedicated lock (and RCU) in MPLS, instead of rtnl_lock.

   - Let users configure the number of write buffers in SMC.

   - Add new struct sockaddr_unsized for sockaddr of unknown length,
     from Kees.

   - Some conversions away from the crypto_ahash API, from Eric Biggers.

   - Some preparations for slimming down struct page.

   - YAML Netlink protocol spec for WireGuard.

   - Add a tool on top of YAML Netlink specs/lib for reporting commonly
     computed derived statistics and summarized system state.

  Driver API:

   - Add CAN XL support to the CAN Netlink interface.

   - Add uAPI for reporting PHY Mean Square Error (MSE) diagnostics, as
     defined by the OPEN Alliance's "Advanced diagnostic features for
     100BASE-T1 automotive Ethernet PHYs" specification.

   - Add DPLL phase-adjust-gran pin attribute (and implement it in
     zl3073x).

   - Refactor xfrm_input lock to reduce contention when NIC offloads
     IPsec and performs RSS.

   - Add info to devlink params whether the current setting is the
     default or a user override. Allow resetting back to default.

   - Add standard device stats for PSP crypto offload.

   - Leverage DSA frame broadcast to implement simple HSR frame
     duplication for a lot of switches without dedicated HSR offload.

   - Add uAPI defines for 1.6Tbps link modes.

  Device drivers:

   - Add Motorcomm YT921x gigabit Ethernet switch support.

   - Add MUCSE driver for N500/N210 1GbE NIC series.

     and away from the direct IOCTL handling. While at it support GET
     operations for PHY timestamping.

   - Add (and convert most drivers to) a dedicated ethtool callback for
     reading the Rx ring count.

   - Significant refactoring efforts in the STMMAC driver, which
     supports Synopsys turn-key MAC IP integrated into a ton of SoCs.

Sahil Chandna c1da3df719 bpf: Prevent nesting overflow in bpf_try_get_buffers
bpf_try_get_buffers() returns one of multiple per-CPU buffers based on a
per-CPU nesting counter. This mechanism expects that buffers are not
endlessly acquired before being returned. migrate_disable() ensures that a
task remains on the same CPU, but it does not prevent the task from being
preempted by another task on that CPU.

Without disabled preemption, a task may be preempted while holding a
buffer, allowing another task to run on same CPU and acquire an
additional buffer. Several such preemptions can cause the per-CPU
nest counter to exceed MAX_BPRINTF_NEST_LEVEL and trigger the warning in
bpf_try_get_buffers(). Adding preempt_disable()/preempt_enable() around
buffer acquisition and release prevents this task preemption and
preserves the intended bounded nesting behavior.

Jakub Sitnicki f38499ff45 bpf: Unclone skb head on bpf_dynptr_write to skb metadata
Currently bpf_dynptr_from_skb_meta() marks the dynptr as read-only when
the skb is cloned, preventing writes to metadata.

Remove this restriction and unclone the skb head on bpf_dynptr_write() to
metadata, now that the metadata is preserved during uncloning. This makes
metadata dynptr consistent with skb dynptr, allowing writes regardless of
whether the skb is cloned.

Mykyta Yatsenko 137cc92ffe bpf: add _impl suffix for bpf_stream_vprintk() kfunc
Rename bpf_stream_vprintk() to bpf_stream_vprintk_impl().

This makes bpf_stream_vprintk() follow the already established "_impl"
suffix-based naming convention for kfuncs with the bpf_prog_aux
argument provided by the verifier implicitly. This convention will be
taken advantage of with the upcoming KF_IMPLICIT_ARGS feature to
preserve backwards compatibility to BPF programs.

Mykyta Yatsenko ea0714d61d bpf:add _impl suffix for bpf_task_work_schedule* kfuncs
Rename:
bpf_task_work_schedule_resume()->bpf_task_work_schedule_resume_impl()
bpf_task_work_schedule_signal()->bpf_task_work_schedule_signal_impl()

This aligns task work scheduling kfuncs with the established naming
scheme for kfuncs with the bpf_prog_aux argument provided by the
verifier implicitly. This convention will be taken advantage of with the
upcoming KF_IMPLICIT_ARGS feature to preserve backwards compatibility to
BPF programs.
