Charalampos Mitrodimas ecdade35dc usb: misc: apple-mfi-fastcharge: Make power supply names unique

When multiple Apple devices are connected concurrently, the
apple-mfi-fastcharge driver fails to probe the subsequent devices with
the following error:

    sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/class/power_supply/apple_mfi_fastcharge'
    apple-mfi-fastcharge 5-2.4.3.3: probe of 5-2.4.3.3 failed with error -17

This happens because the driver uses a fixed power supply name
("apple_mfi_fastcharge") for all devices, causing a sysfs name
conflict when a second device is connected.

Fix this by generating unique names using the USB bus and device
number (e.g., "apple_mfi_fastcharge_5-12"). This ensures each
connected device gets a unique power supply entry in sysfs.

The change requires storing a copy of the power_supply_desc structure
in the per-device mfi_device struct, since the name pointer needs to
remain valid for the lifetime of the power supply registration.

The first is AA lock, it because wrong logic, it need a unlock.
The second is AB lock, it needs to rearrange the order of lock usage.

Oliver Neukum 78e892874c USB: chaoskey: fail open after removal

chaoskey_open() takes the lock only to increase the
counter of openings. That means that the mutual exclusion
with chaoskey_disconnect() cannot prevent an increase
of the counter and chaoskey_open() returning a success.

If that race is hit, chaoskey_disconnect() will happily
free all resources associated with the device after
it has dropped the lock, as it has read the counter
as zero.

To prevent this race chaoskey_open() has to check
the presence of the device under the lock.
However, the current per device lock cannot be used,
because it is a part of the data structure to be
freed. Hence an additional global mutex is needed.
The issue is as old as the driver.

Oliver Neukum cfb7f88ed3 usb: yurex: make waiting on yurex_write interruptible

The IO yurex_write() needs to wait for in order to have a device
ready for writing again can take a long time time.
Consequently the sleep is done in an interruptible state.
Therefore others waiting for yurex_write() itself to finish should
use mutex_lock_interruptible.

Jeongjun Park 83aa97ef37 usb: using mutex lock and supporting O_NONBLOCK flag in iowarrior_read()

iowarrior_read() uses the iowarrior dev structure, but does not use any
lock on the structure. This can cause various bugs including data-races,
so it is more appropriate to use a mutex lock to safely protect the
iowarrior dev structure. When using a mutex lock, you should split the
branch to prevent blocking when the O_NONBLOCK flag is set.

In addition, it is unnecessary to check for NULL on the iowarrior dev
structure obtained by reading file->private_data. Therefore, it is
better to remove the check.

Oliver Neukum c619e923b3 Revert "usb: yurex: Replace snprintf() with the safer scnprintf() variant"

This reverts commit 86b20af11e.

This patch leads to passing 0 to simple_read_from_buffer()
as a fifth argument, turning the read method into a nop.
The change is fundamentally flawed, as it breaks the driver.

Lee Jones f8a2930015 usb: yurex: Replace snprintf() with the safer scnprintf() variant

There is a general misunderstanding amongst engineers that {v}snprintf()
returns the length of the data *actually* encoded into the destination
array.  However, as per the C99 standard {v}snprintf() really returns
the length of the data that *would have been* written if there were
enough space for it.  This misunderstanding has led to buffer-overruns
in the past.  It's generally considered safer to use the {v}scnprintf()
variants in their place (or even sprintf() in simple cases).  So let's
do that.

Whilst we're at it, let's define some magic numbers to increase
readability and ease of maintenance.

Oliver Neukum ec9b165aac USB: appledisplay: close race between probe and completion handler
commit 8265d06b77 upstream.

There is a small window during probing when IO is running
but the backlight is not registered. Processing events
during that time will crash. The completion handler
needs to check for a backlight before scheduling work.

The bug is as old as the driver.

Alex Henrie 8fc246a8a4 usb: misc: uss720: check for incompatible versions of the Belkin F5U002

The incompatible device in my possession has a sticker that says
"F5U002 Rev 2" and "P80453-B", and lsusb identifies it as
"050d:0002 Belkin Components IEEE-1284 Controller". There is a bug
report from 2007 from Michael Trausch who was seeing the exact same
errors that I saw in 2024 trying to use this cable.

Javier Carrasco 4d382ba65d usb: misc: onboard_hub: add support for Microchip USB2412 USB 2.0 hub

The USB2412 is a 2-Port USB 2.0 hub controller that provides a reset pin
and a single 3v3 powre source, which makes it suitable to be controlled
by the onboard_hub driver.

This hub has the same reset timings as USB2514/2517 and the same
onboard hub specific-data can be reused for USB2412.

The problem was caused by the fact that the driver does not check
whether the endpoints it uses are actually present and have the
appropriate types.  This can be fixed by adding a simple check of

Add support for Microchip USB2517 USB 2.0 hub to the onboard usb hub
driver. Adopt the generic usb-device compatible ("usbVID,PID").
This hub has the same reset timings as USB2514, so reuse that one.
There is also an USB2517I which just has industrial temperature range.

Matthias Kaehlcke bab5687f4d usb: misc: onboard_hub: Move 'attach' work to the driver
commit cde37881e2 upstream.

Currently each onboard_hub platform device owns an 'attach' work,
which is scheduled when the device probes. With this deadlocks
have been reported on a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ [1], which has nested
onboard hubs.

The flow of the deadlock is something like this (with the onboard_hub
driver built as a module) [2]:

- USB root hub is instantiated
- core hub driver calls onboard_hub_create_pdevs(), which creates the
  'raw' platform device for the 1st level hub
- 1st level hub is probed by the core hub driver
- core hub driver calls onboard_hub_create_pdevs(), which creates
  the 'raw' platform device for the 2nd level hub

- onboard_hub platform driver is registered
- platform device for 1st level hub is probed
  - schedules 'attach' work
- platform device for 2nd level hub is probed
  - schedules 'attach' work

- onboard_hub USB driver is registered
- device (and parent) lock of hub is held while the device is
  re-probed with the onboard_hub driver

- 'attach' work (running in another thread) calls driver_attach(), which
   blocks on one of the hub device locks

- onboard_hub_destroy_pdevs() is called by the core hub driver when one
  of the hubs is detached
- destroying the pdevs invokes onboard_hub_remove(), which waits for the
  'attach' work to complete
  - waits forever, since the 'attach' work can't acquire the device lock

Use a single work struct for the driver instead of having a work struct
per onboard hub platform driver instance. With that it isn't necessary
to cancel the work in onboard_hub_remove(), which fixes the deadlock.
The work is only cancelled when the driver is unloaded.

Matthias Kaehlcke cbb0da6257 usb: misc: onboard_hub: Invert driver registration order
commit e5854355d7 upstream.

The onboard_hub 'driver' consists of two drivers, a platform
driver and a USB driver. Currently when the onboard hub driver
is initialized it first registers the platform driver, then the
USB driver. This results in a race condition when the 'attach'
work is executed, which is scheduled when the platform device
is probed. The purpose of fhe 'attach' work is to bind elegible
USB hub devices to the onboard_hub USB driver. This fails if
the work runs before the USB driver has been registered.

Register the USB driver first, then the platform driver. This
increases the chances that the onboard_hub USB devices are probed
before their corresponding platform device, which the USB driver
tries to locate in _probe(). The driver already handles this
situation and defers probing if the onboard hub platform device
doesn't exist yet.

Dongliang Mu bce2b05399 usb: idmouse: fix an uninit-value in idmouse_open
In idmouse_create_image, if any ftip_command fails, it will
go to the reset label. However, this leads to the data in
bulk_in_buffer[HEADER..IMGSIZE] uninitialized. And the check
for valid image incurs an uninitialized dereference.

Fix this by moving the check before reset label since this
check only be valid if the data after bulk_in_buffer[HEADER]
has concrete data.

Note that this is found by KMSAN, so only kernel compilation
is tested.

Matthias Kaehlcke 1bcafc0498 usb: misc: onboard_usb_hub: Drop reset delay in onboard_hub_power_off()
onboard_hub_power_off() currently has a delay after asserting the
reset of the hub. There is already a delay in onboard_hub_power_on()
before de-asserting the reset, which ensures that the reset is
asserted for the required time, so the delay in _power_off() is not
needed.

Skip the reset GPIO check before calling gpiod_set_value_cansleep(),
the function returns early when the GPIO descriptor is NULL.

Uwe Kleine-König ed5c2f5fd1 i2c: Make remove callback return void
The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored.
(Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the
error is ignored.)

So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This
way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to
the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly.
There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to
return 0 before.

max_t() macro is defined in include/linux/minmax.h. It avoids

Matthias Kaehlcke 2d937c64e8 usb: misc: onboard_hub: Fix 'missing prototype' warning

Matthias Kaehlcke 8bc063641c usb: misc: Add onboard_usb_hub driver
The main issue this driver addresses is that a USB hub needs to be
powered before it can be discovered. For discrete onboard hubs (an
example for such a hub is the Realtek RTS5411) this is often solved
by supplying the hub with an 'always-on' regulator, which is kind
of a hack. Some onboard hubs may require further initialization
steps, like changing the state of a GPIO or enabling a clock, which
requires even more hacks. This driver creates a platform device
representing the hub which performs the necessary initialization.
Currently it only supports switching on a single regulator, support
for multiple regulators or other actions can be added as needed.
Different initialization sequences can be supported based on the
compatible string.

Besides performing the initialization the driver can be configured
to power the hub off during system suspend. This can help to extend
battery life on battery powered devices which have no requirements
to keep the hub powered during suspend. The driver can also be
configured to leave the hub powered when a wakeup capable USB device
is connected when suspending, and power it off otherwise.

Technically the driver consists of two drivers, the platform driver
described above and a very thin USB driver that subclasses the
generic driver. The purpose of this driver is to provide the platform
driver with the USB devices corresponding to the hub(s) (a hub
controller may provide multiple 'logical' hubs, e.g. one to support
USB 2.0 and another for USB 3.x).

Jiri Slaby 8da443b1a4 tty/vt: consolemap: rename struct vc_data::vc_uni_pagedir*
As a follow-up to the commit 4173f018aa (tty/vt: consolemap: rename
and document struct uni_pagedir), rename also the members of struct
vc_data. I.e. pagedir -> pagedict. And while touching all the places,
remove also the unnecessary vc_ prefix.

Vincent Mailhol dcd2e49b55 usb: remove third argument of usb_maxpacket()
The third argument of usb_maxpacket(): in_out has been deprecated
because it could be derived from the second argument (e.g. using
usb_pipeout(pipe)).

N.B. function usb_maxpacket() was made variadic to accommodate the
transition from the old prototype with three arguments to the new one
with only two arguments (so that no renaming is needed). The variadic
argument is to be removed once all users of usb_maxpacket() get
migrated.

It is odd to call devm_add_action_or_reset() before calling the function
that should be undone.

Either, the "_or_reset" part should be omitted, or the action should be
recorded after the resources have been allocated.

Hangyu Hua 0a96fa640d usb: misc: fix improper handling of refcount in uss720_probe()
usb_put_dev shouldn't be called when uss720_probe succeeds because of
priv->usbdev. At the same time, priv->usbdev shouldn't be set to NULL
before destroy_priv in uss720_disconnect because usb_put_dev is in
destroy_priv.

Fix this by moving priv->usbdev = NULL after usb_put_dev.
