William LiuandGreg Kroah-Hartman ca88ac4436 net/sched: Remove unnecessary WARNING condition for empty child qdisc in htb_activate
[ Upstream commit 2c2192e5f9 ]

The WARN_ON trigger based on !cl->leaf.q->q.qlen is unnecessary in
htb_activate. htb_dequeue_tree already accounts for that scenario.

William LiuandGreg Kroah-Hartman aa12ee1c1b net/sched: Make cake_enqueue return NET_XMIT_CN when past buffer_limit
[ Upstream commit 15de71d06a ]

The following setup can trigger a WARNING in htb_activate due to
the condition: !cl->leaf.q->q.qlen

tc qdisc del dev lo root
tc qdisc add dev lo root handle 1: htb default 1
tc class add dev lo parent 1: classid 1:1 \
       htb rate 64bit
tc qdisc add dev lo parent 1:1 handle f: \
       cake memlimit 1b
ping -I lo -f -c1 -s64 -W0.001 127.0.0.1

This is because the low memlimit leads to a low buffer_limit, which
causes packet dropping. However, cake_enqueue still returns
NET_XMIT_SUCCESS, causing htb_enqueue to call htb_activate with an
empty child qdisc. We should return NET_XMIT_CN when packets are
dropped from the same tin and flow.

I do not believe return value of NET_XMIT_CN is necessary for packet
drops in the case of ack filtering, as that is meant to optimize
performance, not to signal congestion.

Davide CarattiandGreg Kroah-Hartman 84a24fb446 net/sched: ets: use old 'nbands' while purging unused classes
[ Upstream commit 87c6efc5ce ]

Shuang reported sch_ets test-case [1] crashing in ets_class_qlen_notify()
after recent changes from Lion [2]. The problem is: in ets_qdisc_change()
we purge unused DWRR queues; the value of 'q->nbands' is the new one, and
the cleanup should be done with the old one. The problem is here since my
first attempts to fix ets_qdisc_change(), but it surfaced again after the
recent qdisc len accounting fixes. Fix it purging idle DWRR queues before
assigning a new value of 'q->nbands', so that all purge operations find a
consistent configuration:

 - old 'q->nbands' because it's needed by ets_class_find()
 - old 'q->nstrict' because it's needed by ets_class_is_strict()

TCA_MQPRIO_TC_ENTRY_INDEX is validated using
NLA_POLICY_MAX(NLA_U32, TC_QOPT_MAX_QUEUE), which allows the value

Takamitsu IwaiandGreg Kroah-Hartman a7176675c3 net/sched: taprio: enforce minimum value for picos_per_byte
[ Upstream commit ae8508b25d ]

Syzbot reported a WARNING in taprio_get_start_time().

When link speed is 470,589 or greater, q->picos_per_byte becomes too
small, causing length_to_duration(q, ETH_ZLEN) to return zero.

This zero value leads to validation failures in fill_sched_entry() and
parse_taprio_schedule(), allowing arbitrary values to be assigned to
entry->interval and cycle_time. As a result, sched->cycle can become zero.

Since SPEED_800000 is the largest defined speed in
include/uapi/linux/ethtool.h, this issue can occur in realistic scenarios.

To ensure length_to_duration() returns a non-zero value for minimum-sized
Ethernet frames (ETH_ZLEN = 60), picos_per_byte must be at least 17
(60 * 17 > PSEC_PER_NSEC which is 1000).

This patch enforces a minimum value of 17 for picos_per_byte when the
calculated value would be lower, and adds a warning message to inform
users that scheduling accuracy may be affected at very high link speeds.

William LiuandGreg Kroah-Hartman 103c4e27ec net/sched: Restrict conditions for adding duplicating netems to qdisc tree
[ Upstream commit ec8e0e3d7a ]

netem_enqueue's duplication prevention logic breaks when a netem
resides in a qdisc tree with other netems - this can lead to a
soft lockup and OOM loop in netem_dequeue, as seen in [1].
Ensure that a duplicating netem cannot exist in a tree with other
netems.

Previous approaches suggested in discussions in chronological order:

1) Track duplication status or ttl in the sk_buff struct. Considered
too specific a use case to extend such a struct, though this would
be a resilient fix and address other previous and potential future
DOS bugs like the one described in loopy fun [2].

2) Restrict netem_enqueue recursion depth like in act_mirred with a
per cpu variable. However, netem_dequeue can call enqueue on its
child, and the depth restriction could be bypassed if the child is a
netem.

3) Use the same approach as in 2, but add metadata in netem_skb_cb
to handle the netem_dequeue case and track a packet's involvement
in duplication. This is an overly complex approach, and Jamal
notes that the skb cb can be overwritten to circumvent this
safeguard.

4) Prevent the addition of a netem to a qdisc tree if its ancestral
path contains a netem. However, filters and actions can cause a
packet to change paths when re-enqueued to the root from netem
duplication, leading us to the current solution: prevent a
duplicating netem from inhabiting the same tree as other netems.

might_sleep could be trigger in the atomic context in qfq_delete_class.

qfq_destroy_class was moved into atomic context locked
by sch_tree_lock to avoid a race condition bug on
qfq_aggregate. However, might_sleep could be triggered by
qfq_destroy_class, which introduced sleeping in atomic context (path:
qfq_destroy_class->qdisc_put->__qdisc_destroy->lockdep_unregister_key

Considering the race is on the qfq_aggregate objects, keeping
qfq_rm_from_agg in the lock but moving the left part out can solve
this issue.

William LiuandGreg Kroah-Hartman 7ff2d83ecf net/sched: Return NULL when htb_lookup_leaf encounters an empty rbtree
[ Upstream commit 0e1d5d9b5c ]

htb_lookup_leaf has a BUG_ON that can trigger with the following:

tc qdisc del dev lo root
tc qdisc add dev lo root handle 1: htb default 1
tc class add dev lo parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 64bit
tc qdisc add dev lo parent 1:1 handle 2: netem
tc qdisc add dev lo parent 2:1 handle 3: blackhole
ping -I lo -c1 -W0.001 127.0.0.1

The root cause is the following:

1. htb_dequeue calls htb_dequeue_tree which calls the dequeue handler on
   the selected leaf qdisc
2. netem_dequeue calls enqueue on the child qdisc
3. blackhole_enqueue drops the packet and returns a value that is not
   just NET_XMIT_SUCCESS
4. Because of this, netem_dequeue calls qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog, and
   since qlen is now 0, it calls htb_qlen_notify -> htb_deactivate ->
   htb_deactiviate_prios -> htb_remove_class_from_row -> htb_safe_rb_erase
5. As this is the only class in the selected hprio rbtree,
   __rb_change_child in __rb_erase_augmented sets the rb_root pointer to
   NULL
6. Because blackhole_dequeue returns NULL, netem_dequeue returns NULL,
   which causes htb_dequeue_tree to call htb_lookup_leaf with the same
   hprio rbtree, and fail the BUG_ON

The function graph for this scenario is shown here:

A race condition can occur when 'agg' is modified in qfq_change_agg

performed after qdisc_create (and thus the qdiscs' init callback) is
executed. In qdiscs that eventually call qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog
during init or change (such as fq, hhf, choke, etc), an issue
arises. For example, executing the following commands:

sudo tc qdisc add dev lo root handle a: htb default 2
sudo tc qdisc add dev lo parent a: handle beef fq

Qdiscs such as fq, hhf, choke, etc unconditionally invoke
qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog() in their control path init() or change() which
then causes a failure to find the child class; however, that does not stop
the unconditional invocation of the assumed child qdisc's qlen_notify with
a null class. All these qdiscs make the assumption that class is non-null.

The solution is ensure that qdisc_leaf() which looks up the parent
class, and is invoked prior to qdisc_create(), should return failure on
not finding the class.
In this patch, we leverage qdisc_leaf to return ERR_PTRs whenever the
parentid doesn't correspond to a class, so that we can detect it
earlier on and abort before qdisc_create is called.

Lion AckermannandGreg Kroah-Hartman f680a4643c net/sched: Always pass notifications when child class becomes empty
[ Upstream commit 103406b38c ]

Certain classful qdiscs may invoke their classes' dequeue handler on an
enqueue operation. This may unexpectedly empty the child qdisc and thus
make an in-flight class passive via qlen_notify(). Most qdiscs do not
expect such behaviour at this point in time and may re-activate the
class eventually anyways which will lead to a use-after-free.

The referenced fix commit attempted to fix this behavior for the HFSC
case by moving the backlog accounting around, though this turned out to
be incomplete since the parent's parent may run into the issue too.
The following reproducer demonstrates this use-after-free:

    tc qdisc add dev lo root handle 1: drr
    tc filter add dev lo parent 1: basic classid 1:1
    tc class add dev lo parent 1: classid 1:1 drr
    tc qdisc add dev lo parent 1:1 handle 2: hfsc def 1
    tc class add dev lo parent 2: classid 2:1 hfsc rt m1 8 d 1 m2 0
    tc qdisc add dev lo parent 2:1 handle 3: netem
    tc qdisc add dev lo parent 3:1 handle 4: blackhole

    echo 1 | socat -u STDIN UDP4-DATAGRAM:127.0.0.1:8888
    tc class delete dev lo classid 1:1
    echo 1 | socat -u STDIN UDP4-DATAGRAM:127.0.0.1:8888

Since backlog accounting issues leading to a use-after-frees on stale
class pointers is a recurring pattern at this point, this patch takes
a different approach. Instead of trying to fix the accounting, the patch
ensures that qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog always calls qlen_notify when
the child qdisc is empty. This solves the problem because deletion of
qdiscs always involves a call to qdisc_reset() and / or
qdisc_purge_queue() which ultimately resets its qlen to 0 thus causing
the following qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog() to report to the parent. Note
that this may call qlen_notify on passive classes multiple times. This
is not a problem after the recent patch series that made all the
classful qdiscs qlen_notify() handlers idempotent.

Pedro TammelaandGreg Kroah-Hartman 295f7c579b net_sched: hfsc: Address reentrant enqueue adding class to eltree twice
commit ac9fe7dd8e upstream.

Savino says:
    "We are writing to report that this recent patch
    (141d34391a) [1]
    can be bypassed, and a UAF can still occur when HFSC is utilized with
    NETEM.

    The patch only checks the cl->cl_nactive field to determine whether
    it is the first insertion or not [2], but this field is only
    incremented by init_vf [3].

    By using HFSC_RSC (which uses init_ed) [4], it is possible to bypass the
    check and insert the class twice in the eltree.
    Under normal conditions, this would lead to an infinite loop in
    hfsc_dequeue for the reasons we already explained in this report [5].

    However, if TBF is added as root qdisc and it is configured with a
    very low rate,
    it can be utilized to prevent packets from being dequeued.
    This behavior can be exploited to perform subsequent insertions in the
    HFSC eltree and cause a UAF."

To fix both the UAF and the infinite loop, with netem as an hfsc child,
check explicitly in hfsc_enqueue whether the class is already in the eltree
whenever the HFSC_RSC flag is set.

Cong WangandGreg Kroah-Hartman 93c276942e sch_hfsc: Fix qlen accounting bug when using peek in hfsc_enqueue()
[ Upstream commit 3f98113810 ]

When enqueuing the first packet to an HFSC class, hfsc_enqueue() calls the
child qdisc's peek() operation before incrementing sch->q.qlen and
sch->qstats.backlog. If the child qdisc uses qdisc_peek_dequeued(), this may
trigger an immediate dequeue and potential packet drop. In such cases,
qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog() is called, but the HFSC qdisc's qlen and backlog
have not yet been updated, leading to inconsistent queue accounting. This
can leave an empty HFSC class in the active list, causing further
consequences like use-after-free.

This patch fixes the bug by moving the increment of sch->q.qlen and
sch->qstats.backlog before the call to the child qdisc's peek() operation.
This ensures that queue length and backlog are always accurate when packet
drops or dequeues are triggered during the peek.

Cong WangandGreg Kroah-Hartman 31ff70ad39 sch_htb: make htb_deactivate() idempotent
[ Upstream commit 3769478610 ]

Alan reported a NULL pointer dereference in htb_next_rb_node()
after we made htb_qlen_notify() idempotent.

It turns out in the following case it introduced some regression:

htb_dequeue_tree():
  |-> fq_codel_dequeue()
    |-> qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog()
      |-> htb_qlen_notify()
        |-> htb_deactivate()
  |-> htb_next_rb_node()
  |-> htb_deactivate()

For htb_next_rb_node(), after calling the 1st htb_deactivate(), the
clprio[prio]->ptr could be already set to NULL, which means
htb_next_rb_node() is vulnerable here.

For htb_deactivate(), although we checked qlen before calling it, in
case of qlen==0 after qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog(), we may call it again
which triggers the warning inside.

To fix the issues here, we need to:

1) Make htb_deactivate() idempotent, that is, simply return if we
   already call it before.
2) Make htb_next_rb_node() safe against ptr==NULL.

Many thanks to Alan for testing and for the reproducer.

Cong WangandGreg Kroah-Hartman e762ec4c7b sch_ets: make est_qlen_notify() idempotent

[ Upstream commit 141d34391a ]

As described in Gerrard's report [1], we have a UAF case when an hfsc class

Abhishek ChauhanandGreg Kroah-Hartman 8dde02229b net: Rename mono_delivery_time to tstamp_type for scalabilty
[ Upstream commit 4d25ca2d68 ]

mono_delivery_time was added to check if skb->tstamp has delivery
time in mono clock base (i.e. EDT) otherwise skb->tstamp has
timestamp in ingress and delivery_time at egress.

Renaming the bitfield from mono_delivery_time to tstamp_type is for
extensibilty for other timestamps such as userspace timestamp
(i.e. SO_TXTIME) set via sock opts.

As we are renaming the mono_delivery_time to tstamp_type, it makes
sense to start assigning tstamp_type based on enum defined
in this commit.

Earlier we used bool arg flag to check if the tstamp is mono in
function skb_set_delivery_time, Now the signature of the functions
accepts tstamp_type to distinguish between mono and real time.

Also skb_set_delivery_type_by_clockid is a new function which accepts
clockid to determine the tstamp_type.

In future tstamp_type:1 can be extended to support userspace timestamp
by increasing the bitfield.

Cong WangandGreg Kroah-Hartman 3aa852e360 net_sched: hfsc: Fix a UAF vulnerability in class handling
[ Upstream commit 3df275ef0a ]

This patch fixes a Use-After-Free vulnerability in the HFSC qdisc class
handling. The issue occurs due to a time-of-check/time-of-use condition
in hfsc_change_class() when working with certain child qdiscs like netem
or codel.

The vulnerability works as follows:
1. hfsc_change_class() checks if a class has packets (q.qlen != 0)
2. It then calls qdisc_peek_len(), which for certain qdiscs (e.g.,
   codel, netem) might drop packets and empty the queue
3. The code continues assuming the queue is still non-empty, adding
   the class to vttree
4. This breaks HFSC scheduler assumptions that only non-empty classes
   are in vttree
5. Later, when the class is destroyed, this can lead to a Use-After-Free

The fix adds a second queue length check after qdisc_peek_len() to verify
the queue wasn't emptied.

Toke Høiland-JørgensenandGreg Kroah-Hartman 8b158a0d19 tc: Ensure we have enough buffer space when sending filter netlink notifications
[ Upstream commit 369609fc62 ]

The tfilter_notify() and tfilter_del_notify() functions assume that
NLMSG_GOODSIZE is always enough to dump the filter chain. This is not
always the case, which can lead to silent notify failures (because the
return code of tfilter_notify() is not always checked). In particular,
this can lead to NLM_F_ECHO not being honoured even though an action
succeeds, which forces userspace to create workarounds[0].

Fix this by increasing the message size if dumping the filter chain into
the allocated skb fails. Use the size of the incoming skb as a size hint
if set, so we can start at a larger value when appropriate.

To trigger this, run the following commands:

 # ip link add type veth
 # tc qdisc replace dev veth0 root handle 1: fq_codel
 # tc -echo filter add dev veth0 parent 1: u32 match u32 0 0 $(for i in $(seq 32); do echo action pedit munge ip dport set 22; done)

Before this fix, tc just returns:

Not a filter(cmd 2)

After the fix, we get the correct echo:

Cong WangandGreg Kroah-Hartman 864ca690ff net_sched: skbprio: Remove overly strict queue assertions
[ Upstream commit ce8fe975fd ]

In the current implementation, skbprio enqueue/dequeue contains an assertion
that fails under certain conditions when SKBPRIO is used as a child qdisc under
TBF with specific parameters. The failure occurs because TBF sometimes peeks at
packets in the child qdisc without actually dequeuing them when tokens are
unavailable.

This peek operation creates a discrepancy between the parent and child qdisc
queue length counters. When TBF later receives a high-priority packet,
SKBPRIO's queue length may show a different value than what's reflected in its
internal priority queue tracking, triggering the assertion.

The fix removes this overly strict assertions in SKBPRIO, they are not
necessary at all.

Cong WangandGreg Kroah-Hartman 78533c4a29 net_sched: Prevent creation of classes with TC_H_ROOT
[ Upstream commit 0c3057a5a0 ]

The function qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog() uses TC_H_ROOT as a termination
condition when traversing up the qdisc tree to update parent backlog
counters. However, if a class is created with classid TC_H_ROOT, the
traversal terminates prematurely at this class instead of reaching the
actual root qdisc, causing parent statistics to be incorrectly maintained.
In case of DRR, this could lead to a crash as reported by Mingi Cho.

Prevent the creation of any Qdisc class with classid TC_H_ROOT
(0xFFFFFFFF) across all qdisc types, as suggested by Jamal.

Jun YangandGreg Kroah-Hartman 0f0a152957 sched: address a potential NULL pointer dereference in the GRED scheduler.
[ Upstream commit 115ef44a98 ]

If kzalloc in gred_init returns a NULL pointer, the code follows the
error handling path, invoking gred_destroy. This, in turn, calls
gred_offload, where memset could receive a NULL pointer as input,
potentially leading to a kernel crash.

When table->opt is NULL in gred_init(), gred_change_table_def()
is not called yet, so it is not necessary to call ->ndo_setup_tc()

Quang LeandGreg Kroah-Hartman 79a955ea4a pfifo_tail_enqueue: Drop new packet when sch->limit == 0
commit 647cef20e6 upstream.

Expected behaviour:
In case we reach scheduler's limit, pfifo_tail_enqueue() will drop a
packet in scheduler's queue and decrease scheduler's qlen by one.
Then, pfifo_tail_enqueue() enqueue new packet and increase
scheduler's qlen by one. Finally, pfifo_tail_enqueue() return
`NET_XMIT_CN` status code.

Weird behaviour:
In case we set `sch->limit == 0` and trigger pfifo_tail_enqueue() on a
scheduler that has no packet, the 'drop a packet' step will do nothing.
This means the scheduler's qlen still has value equal 0.
Then, we continue to enqueue new packet and increase scheduler's qlen by
one. In summary, we can leverage pfifo_tail_enqueue() to increase qlen by
one and return `NET_XMIT_CN` status code.

The problem is:
Let's say we have two qdiscs: Qdisc_A and Qdisc_B.
 - Qdisc_A's type must have '->graft()' function to create parent/child relationship.
   Let's say Qdisc_A's type is `hfsc`. Enqueue packet to this qdisc will trigger `hfsc_enqueue`.
 - Qdisc_B's type is pfifo_head_drop. Enqueue packet to this qdisc will trigger `pfifo_tail_enqueue`.
 - Qdisc_B is configured to have `sch->limit == 0`.
 - Qdisc_A is configured to route the enqueued's packet to Qdisc_B.

Enqueue packet through Qdisc_A will lead to:
 - hfsc_enqueue(Qdisc_A) -> pfifo_tail_enqueue(Qdisc_B)
 - Qdisc_B->q.qlen += 1
 - pfifo_tail_enqueue() return `NET_XMIT_CN`
 - hfsc_enqueue() check for `NET_XMIT_SUCCESS` and see `NET_XMIT_CN` => hfsc_enqueue() don't increase qlen of Qdisc_A.

The whole process lead to a situation where Qdisc_A->q.qlen == 0 and Qdisc_B->q.qlen == 1.
Replace 'hfsc' with other type (for example: 'drr') still lead to the same problem.
This violate the design where parent's qlen should equal to the sum of its childrens'qlen.

Bug impact: This issue can be used for user->kernel privilege escalation when it is reachable.

Pierre RiteauandGreg Kroah-Hartman de4b679aa3 net/sched: cls_api: fix error handling causing NULL dereference

tcf_exts_miss_cookie_base_alloc() calls xa_alloc_cyclic() which can
return 1 if the allocation succeeded after wrapping. This was treated as
an error, with value 1 returned to caller tcf_exts_init_ex() which sets

fl_change() treats err == 1 as success, calling tcf_exts_validate_ex()

step 9. Display the class/qdisc layout

tc class ls dev lo
 class drr 1:1 root leaf 2: quantum 64Kb

 class drr 3:1 root leaf 4: quantum 64Kb

tc qdisc ls
 qdisc drr 1: dev lo root refcnt 2
 qdisc plug 2: dev lo parent 1:1
 qdisc pfifo 4: dev lo parent 3:1 limit 1000p
 qdisc drr 3: dev lo parent 1:2

step10. trigger the bug <=== prevented by this patch
tc qdisc replace dev lo parent 1:3 handle 4:0

step 11. Redisplay again the qdiscs/classes

tc class ls dev lo
 class drr 1:1 root leaf 2: quantum 64Kb
 class drr 1:2 root leaf 3: quantum 64Kb
 class drr 1:3 root leaf 4: quantum 64Kb

 qdisc plug 2: dev lo parent 1:1
 qdisc pfifo 4: dev lo parent 3:1 refcnt 2 limit 1000p
 qdisc drr 3: dev lo parent 1:2

Observe that a) parent for 4:0 does not change despite the replace request.
There can only be one parent. b) refcount has gone up by two for 4:0 and
c) both class 1:3 and 3:1 are pointing to it.

Step 12. send one packet to plug
echo "" | socat -u STDIN UDP4-DATAGRAM:127.0.0.1:8888,priority=$((0x10001))
step13. send one packet to the grafted fifo
echo "" | socat -u STDIN UDP4-DATAGRAM:127.0.0.1:8888,priority=$((0x10003))

step14. lets trigger the uaf
tc class delete dev lo classid 1:3
tc class delete dev lo classid 1:1

The semantics of "replace" is for a del/add _on the same node_ and not
a delete from one node(3:1) and add to another node (1:3) as in step10.
While we could "fix" with a more complex approach there could be
consequences to expectations so the patch takes the preventive approach of
"disallow such config".

The crash can be also be reproduced with the following (with a tc
recompiled to allow for sfq limits of 1):

tc qdisc add dev dummy0 handle 1: root tbf rate 1Kbit burst 100b lat 1s
../iproute2-6.9.0/tc/tc qdisc add dev dummy0 handle 2: parent 1:10 sfq limit 1
ifconfig dummy0 up
ping -I dummy0 -f -c2 -W0.1 8.8.8.8
sleep 1

Scenario that triggers the crash:

* the first packet is sent and queued in TBF and SFQ; qdisc qlen is 1

* TBF dequeues: it peeks from SFQ which moves the packet to the
  gso_skb list and keeps qdisc qlen set to 1. TBF is out of tokens so
  it schedules itself for later.

* the second packet is sent and TBF tries to queues it to SFQ. qdisc
  qlen is now 2 and because the SFQ limit is 1 the packet is dropped
  by SFQ. At this point qlen is 1, and all of the SFQ slots are empty,
  however q->tail is not NULL.

At this point, assuming no more packets are queued, when sch_dequeue
runs again it will decrement the qlen for the current empty slot
causing an underflow and the subsequent out of bounds access.
