Mahanta JambigiandGreg Kroah-Hartman 7f8869586d net/smc: Remove validation of reserved bits in CLC Decline message
[ Upstream commit cc282f73bc ]

Currently SMC code is validating the reserved bits while parsing the incoming
CLC decline message & when this validation fails, its treated as a protocol
error. As a result, the SMC connection is terminated instead of falling back to
TCP. As per RFC7609[1] specs we shouldn't be validating the reserved bits that
is part of CLC message. This patch fixes this issue.

CLC Decline message format can viewed here[2].

The direct cause of this issue is that after smc_listen_out_connected(),
newclcsock->sk may be NULL since it will releases the smcsk. Therefore,
if the application closes the socket immediately after accept,
newclcsock->sk can be NULL. A possible execution order could be as
follows:

smc_listen_work                                 | userspace
-----------------------------------------------------------------
lock_sock(sk)                                   |
smc_listen_out_connected()                      |
| \- smc_listen_out                             |
|    | \- release_sock                          |
     | |- sk->sk_data_ready()                   |
                                                | fd = accept();
                                                | close(fd);
                                                |  \- socket->sk = NULL;
/* newclcsock->sk is NULL now */
SMC_STAT_SERV_SUCC_INC(sock_net(newclcsock->sk))

Since smc_listen_out_connected() will not fail, simply swapping the order
of the code can easily fix this issue.

Eric DumazetandGreg Kroah-Hartman 2668e03880 net: better track kernel sockets lifetime
[ Upstream commit 5c70eb5c59 ]

While kernel sockets are dismantled during pernet_operations->exit(),
their freeing can be delayed by any tx packets still held in qdisc
or device queues, due to skb_set_owner_w() prior calls.

This then trigger the following warning from ref_tracker_dir_exit() [1]

To fix this, make sure that kernel sockets own a reference on net->passive.

Add sk_net_refcnt_upgrade() helper, used whenever a kernel socket
is converted to a refcounted one.

Guangguan WangandGreg Kroah-Hartman 3ecfb92c01 net/smc: use the correct ndev to find pnetid by pnetid table
[ Upstream commit bfc6c67ec2 ]

When using smc_pnet in SMC, it will only search the pnetid in the
base_ndev of the netdev hierarchy(both HW PNETID and User-defined
sw pnetid). This may not work for some scenarios when using SMC in
container on cloud environment.
In container, there have choices of different container network,
such as directly using host network, virtual network IPVLAN, veth,
etc. Different choices of container network have different netdev
hierarchy. Examples of netdev hierarchy show below. (eth0 and eth1
in host below is the netdev directly related to the physical device).

           ---------------------------------
             netdev hierarchy if using veth
Due to some reasons, the eth1 in host is not RDMA attached netdevice,
pnetid is needed to map the eth1(in host) with RDMA device so that POD
can do SMC-R. Because the eth1(in host) is managed by CNI plugin(such
as Terway, network management plugin in container environment), and in
cloud environment the eth(in host) can dynamically be inserted by CNI
when POD create and dynamically be removed by CNI when POD destroy and
no POD related to the eth(in host) anymore. It is hard to config the
pnetid to the eth1(in host). But it is easy to config the pnetid to the
netdevice which can be seen in POD. When do SMC-R, both the container
directly using host network and the container using veth network can
successfully match the RDMA device, because the configured pnetid netdev
is a base_ndev. But the container using IPVLAN can not successfully
match the RDMA device and 0x03030000 fallback happens, because the
configured pnetid netdev is not a base_ndev. Additionally, if config
pnetid to the eth1(in host) also can not work for matching RDMA device
when using veth network and doing SMC-R in POD.

To resolve the problems list above, this patch extends to search user
-defined sw pnetid in the clc handshake ndev when no pnetid can be found
in the base_ndev, and the base_ndev take precedence over ndev for backward
compatibility. This patch also can unify the pnetid setup of different
network choices list above in container(Config user-defined sw pnetid in
the netdevice can be seen in POD).

Guangguan WangandGreg Kroah-Hartman d433ccd987 net/smc: fix data error when recvmsg with MSG_PEEK flag
[ Upstream commit a4b6539038 ]

When recvmsg with MSG_PEEK flag, the data will be copied to
user's buffer without advancing consume cursor and without
reducing the length of rx available data. Once the expected
peek length is larger than the value of bytes_to_rcv, in the
loop of do while in smc_rx_recvmsg, the first loop will copy
bytes_to_rcv bytes of data from the position local_tx_ctrl.cons,
the second loop will copy the min(bytes_to_rcv, read_remaining)
bytes from the position local_tx_ctrl.cons again because of the
lacking of process with advancing consume cursor and reducing
the length of available data. So do the subsequent loops. The
data copied in the second loop and the subsequent loops will
result in data error, as it should not be copied if no more data
arrives and it should be copied from the position advancing
bytes_to_rcv bytes from the local_tx_ctrl.cons if more data arrives.

This issue can be reproduce by the following python script:
server.py:

Guangguan WangandGreg Kroah-Hartman 7a6927814b net/smc: check return value of sock_recvmsg when draining clc data
[ Upstream commit c5b8ee5022 ]

When receiving clc msg, the field length in smc_clc_msg_hdr indicates the
length of msg should be received from network and the value should not be
fully trusted as it is from the network. Once the value of length exceeds
the value of buflen in function smc_clc_wait_msg it may run into deadloop
when trying to drain the remaining data exceeding buflen.

This patch checks the return value of sock_recvmsg when draining data in
case of deadloop in draining.

Guangguan WangandGreg Kroah-Hartman 2e0786b300 net/smc: check sndbuf_space again after NOSPACE flag is set in smc_poll
[ Upstream commit 679e9ddcf9 ]

When application sending data more than sndbuf_space, there have chances
application will sleep in epoll_wait, and will never be wakeup again. This
is caused by a race between smc_poll and smc_cdc_tx_handler.

application                                      tasklet
smc_tx_sendmsg(len > sndbuf_space)   |

                                     |    atomic_add sndbuf_space
                                     |    smc_tx_sndbuf_nonfull

                                     |        do not sk_write_space;
      set_bit SOCK_NOSPACE;          |
    return mask=0;                   |

Application will sleep in epoll_wait as smc_poll returns 0. And
smc_cdc_tx_handler will not call sk_write_space because the SOCK_NOSPACE
has not be set. If there is no inflight cdc msg, sk_write_space will not be
called any more, and application will sleep in epoll_wait forever.
So check sndbuf_space again after NOSPACE flag is set to break the race.

Wen GuandGreg Kroah-Hartman 3706311ea0 net/smc: fix incorrect SMC-D link group matching logic
commit c3dfcdb65e upstream.

The logic to determine if SMC-D link group matches is incorrect. The
correct logic should be that it only returns true when the GID is the
same, and the SMC-D device is the same and the extended GID is the same
(in the case of virtual ISM).

It can be fixed by adding brackets around the conditional (or ternary)
operator expression. But for better readability and maintainability, it
has been changed to an if-else statement.

It is caused by repeated release of LGR/link refcnt. One suspect is that
smc_conn_free() is called repeatedly because some smc_conn_free() from
server listening path are not protected by sock lock.

e.g.

Calls under socklock        | smc_listen_work
-------------------------------------------------------
lock_sock(sk)               | smc_conn_abort
smc_conn_free               | \- smc_conn_free
\- smcr_link_put            |    \- smcr_link_put (duplicated)

So here add sock lock protection in smc_listen_work() path, making it
exclusive with other connection operations.

Wen GuandGreg Kroah-Hartman fe7ef3a10c net/smc: add operations to merge sndbuf with peer DMB

In some scenarios using Emulated-ISM device, sndbuf can share the same
physical memory region with peer DMB to avoid data copy from one side
to the other. In such case the sndbuf is only a descriptor that
describes the shared memory and does not actually occupy memory, it's
more like a ghost buffer.

Eric DumazetandGreg Kroah-Hartman a2e6bffc03 net/smc: reduce rtnl pressure in smc_pnet_create_pnetids_list()
[ Upstream commit 00af2aa93b ]

Many syzbot reports show extreme rtnl pressure, and many of them hint
that smc acquires rtnl in netns creation for no good reason [1]

This patch returns early from smc_pnet_net_init()

I am not even sure why smc_pnet_create_pnetids_list() even exists,
because smc_pnet_netdev_event() is also calling
smc_pnet_add_base_pnetid() when handling NETDEV_UP event.

Wen GuandGreg Kroah-Hartman d1f1e11b3d net/smc: disable SEID on non-s390 archs where virtual ISM may be used
[ Upstream commit c6b8b8eb49 ]

The system EID (SEID) is an internal EID used by SMC-D to represent the
s390 physical machine that OS is executing on. On s390 architecture, it
predefined by fixed string and part of cpuid and is enabled regardless
of whether underlay device is virtual ISM or platform firmware ISM.

However on non-s390 architectures where SMC-D can be used with virtual
ISM devices, there is no similar information to identify physical
machines, especially in virtualization scenarios. So in such cases, SEID
is forcibly disabled and the user-defined UEID will be used to represent
the communicable space.

D. WytheandGreg Kroah-Hartman 7234d2b5df net/smc: avoid data corruption caused by decline
[ Upstream commit e6d71b437a ]

We found a data corruption issue during testing of SMC-R on Redis
applications.

The benchmark has a low probability of reporting a strange error as
shown below.

"Error: Protocol error, got "\xe2" as reply type byte"

Finally, we found that the retrieved error data was as follows:

0xE2 0xD4 0xC3 0xD9 0x04 0x00 0x2C 0x20 0xA6 0x56 0x00 0x16 0x3E 0x0C

0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0xE2

It is quite obvious that this is a SMC DECLINE message, which means that
the applications received SMC protocol message.
We found that this was caused by the following situations:

client                  server

        ¦   decline
        -------------->
        ¦   decline
        <--------------

As a result, a decline message was sent in the implementation, and this
message was read from TCP by the already-fallback connection.

This patch double the client timeout as 2x of the server value,
With this simple change, the Decline messages should never cross or
collide (during Confirm link timeout).

This issue requires an immediate solution, since the protocol updates
involve a more long-term solution.

Nils HoppmannandDavid S. Miller a950a5921d net/smc: Fix pos miscalculation in statistics
SMC_STAT_PAYLOAD_SUB(_smc_stats, _tech, key, _len, _rc) will calculate
wrong bucket positions for payloads of exactly 4096 bytes and
(1 << (m + 12)) bytes, with m == SMC_BUF_MAX - 1.

Intended bucket distribution:
Assume l == size of payload, m == SMC_BUF_MAX - 1.

Bucket 0                : 0 < l <= 2^13
Bucket n, 1 <= n <= m-1 : 2^(n+12) < l <= 2^(n+13)
Bucket m                : l > 2^(m+12)

Current solution:
_pos = fls64((l) >> 13)
[...]
_pos = (_pos < m) ? ((l == 1 << (_pos + 12)) ? _pos - 1 : _pos) : m

For l == 4096, _pos == -1, but should be _pos == 0.
For l == (1 << (m + 12)), _pos == m, but should be _pos == m - 1.

In order to avoid special treatment of these corner cases, the
calculation is adjusted. The new solution first subtracts the length by
one, and then calculates the correct bucket by shifting accordingly,
i.e. _pos = fls64((l - 1) >> 13), l > 0.
This not only fixes the issues named above, but also makes the whole
bucket assignment easier to follow.

Same is done for SMC_STAT_RMB_SIZE_SUB(_smc_stats, _tech, k, _len),
where the calculation of the bucket position is similar to the one
named above.

Gerd BayerandPaolo Abeni a72178cfe8 net/smc: Fix dependency of SMC on ISM
When the SMC protocol is built into the kernel proper while ISM is
configured to be built as module, linking the kernel fails due to
unresolved dependencies out of net/smc/smc_ism.o to
ism_get_smcd_ops, ism_register_client, and ism_unregister_client
as reported via the linux-next test automation (see link).
This however is a bug introduced a while ago.

Correct the dependency list in ISM's and SMC's Kconfig to reflect the
dependencies that are actually inverted. With this you cannot build a
kernel with CONFIG_SMC=y and CONFIG_ISM=m. Either ISM needs to be 'y',
too - or a 'n'. That way, SMC can still be configured on non-s390
architectures that do not have (nor need) an ISM driver.

Linus Torvalds adfd671676 Merge tag 'sysctl-6.6-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mcgrof/linux
Pull sysctl updates from Luis Chamberlain:
 "Long ago we set out to remove the kitchen sink on kernel/sysctl.c
  arrays and placings sysctls to their own sybsystem or file to help
  avoid merge conflicts. Matthew Wilcox pointed out though that if we're
  going to do that we might as well also *save* space while at it and
  try to remove the extra last sysctl entry added at the end of each
  array, a sentintel, instead of bloating the kernel by adding a new
  sentinel with each array moved.

  Doing that was not so trivial, and has required slowing down the moves
  of kernel/sysctl.c arrays and measuring the impact on size by each new
  move.

  The complex part of the effort to help reduce the size of each sysctl
  is being done by the patient work of el señor Don Joel Granados. A lot
  of this is truly painful code refactoring and testing and then trying
  to measure the savings of each move and removing the sentinels.
  Although Joel already has code which does most of this work,
  experience with sysctl moves in the past shows is we need to be
  careful due to the slew of odd build failures that are possible due to
  the amount of random Kconfig options sysctls use.

  To that end Joel's work is split by first addressing the major
  housekeeping needed to remove the sentinels, which is part of this
  merge request. The rest of the work to actually remove the sentinels
  will be done later in future kernel releases.

  The preliminary math is showing this will all help reduce the overall
  build time size of the kernel and run time memory consumed by the
  kernel by about ~64 bytes per array where we are able to remove each
  sentinel in the future. That also means there is no more bloating the
  kernel with the extra ~64 bytes per array moved as no new sentinels
  are created"
