String event fields are not necessarily NUL-terminated, so the filter
predicate functions (filter_pred_string(), filter_pred_strloc() and
filter_pred_strrelloc()) pass the field length to the regex match
callbacks, and the length-aware matchers honour it.

regex_match_glob() was the exception: it ignored the length and called
glob_match(), which scans the string until it hits a NUL byte. Some
string fields are not NUL-terminated. One example is the dynamic char
array of the xfs_* namespace tracepoints, which is copied without a
trailing NUL. For such a field, glob matching reads past the end of
the event field, causing a KASAN slab-out-of-bounds read in
glob_match(), reached via regex_match_glob() and filter_match_preds()
from the xfs_lookup tracepoint.

Add a length-bounded glob_match_len() and use it from regex_match_glob()
so glob matching always stops at the field boundary. The matching loop
is factored into a shared helper so glob_match() keeps its behaviour.

syzbot reported a puzzling splat:

   WARNING: kernel/time/hrtimer.c:443 at stub_timer+0xa/0x20

stub_timer() is installed as timer callback function in
hrtimer_fixup_assert_init(), which is invoked when
debug_object_assert_init() can't find a shadow object. In that case debug
objects emits a warning about it before invoking the fixup.

Though the provided console log lacks this warning and instead has the
following a few seconds before the splat:

     ODEBUG: Out of memory. ODEBUG disabled

So the object was looked up in debug_object_assert_init() and the lookup
failed due a concurrent out of memory situation which disabled debug
objects and freed the shadow objects:

The debug object splat is skipped because debug_objects_enabled is false,
but the fixup callback is invoked unconditionally, which makes the timer
disfunctional.

This is only a problem in debug_object_assert_init() and
debug_object_activate() as both have to handle statically initialized
objects and therefore must handle the error pointer return case
gracefully. All other places only handle the found/not found case and the
NULL pointer return is a signal for OOM. Otherwise they get a valid shadow
object.

Plug the hole by checking whether debug objects are still enabled before
invoking the print and fixup function in those two places.

Waiman LongandGreg Kroah-Hartman 3cc90ea0dd debugobjects: Dont call fill_pool() in early boot hardirq context

When booting a debug PREEMPT_RT kernel on an ARM64 system, a "inconsistent
{HARDIRQ-ON-W} -> {IN-HARDIRQ-W} usage" lockdep warning message was
reported to the console.

During early boot, interrupts are enabled before the scheduler is
enabled. In this window (before SYSTEM_SCHEDULING is set) interrupts can
fire and in the hard interrupt context handler attempt to fill the pool

This can lead to a deadlock when the interrupt occurred when the interrupt
hits a region which holds a lock that is required to be taken in the
allocation path.

Add a new can_fill_pool() helper and reorder the exception rule and forbid
this scenario by excluding allocations from hard interrupt context.

On RT enabled kernels, fill_pool() ends up calling rtlock_lock(), which
asserts if current::pi_blocked_on is set, because a task can obviously only
block on one lock as otherwise the priority inheritenace chain gets
corrupted.

Prevent this by expanding the conditional to take current::pi_blocked_on
into account.

fill_pool_map is used to suppress nesting violations caused by acquiring
a spinlock_t (from within the memory allocator) while holding a
raw_spinlock_t. The used annotation is wrong.

LD_WAIT_SLEEP is for always sleeping lock types such as mutex_t.
LD_WAIT_CONFIG is for lock type which are sleeping while spinning on
PREEMPT_RT such as spinlock_t.

Use LD_WAIT_CONFIG as override.

The pool of free objects is refilled on several occasions such as object
initialisation. On PREEMPT_RT refilling is limited to preemptible
sections due to sleeping locks used by the memory allocator. The system
boots with disabled interrupts so the pool can not be refilled.

If too many objects are initialized and the pool gets empty then
debugobjects disables itself.

Refiling can also happen early in the boot with disabled interrupts as
long as the scheduler is not operational. If the scheduler can not
preempt a task then a sleeping lock can not be contended.

Allow to additionally refill the pool if the scheduler is not
operational.

There is an explicit wait-type violation in debug_object_fill_pool()
for PREEMPT_RT=n kernels which allows them to more easily fill the
object pool and reduce the chance of allocation failures.

Lockdep's wait-type checks are designed to check the PREEMPT_RT
locking rules even for PREEMPT_RT=n kernels and object to this, so
create a lockdep annotation to allow this to stand.

Specifically, create a 'lock' type that overrides the inner wait-type
while it is held -- allowing one to temporarily raise it, such that
the violation is hidden.

Lukas WunnerandGreg Kroah-Hartman 6d63615c79 lib/crypto: mpi: Fix integer underflow in mpi_read_raw_from_sgl()
commit 8c2f128825 upstream.

Yiming reports an integer underflow in mpi_read_raw_from_sgl() when
subtracting "lzeros" from the unsigned "nbytes".

For this to happen, the scatterlist "sgl" needs to occupy more bytes
than the "nbytes" parameter and the first "nbytes + 1" bytes of the
scatterlist must be zero.  Under these conditions, the while loop
iterating over the scatterlist will count more zeroes than "nbytes",
subtract the number of zeroes from "nbytes" and cause the underflow.

When commit 2d4d1eea54 ("lib/mpi: Add mpi sgl helpers") originally
introduced the bug, it couldn't be triggered because all callers of
mpi_read_raw_from_sgl() passed a scatterlist whose length was equal to
"nbytes".

However since commit 63ba4d6759 ("KEYS: asymmetric: Use new crypto
interface without scatterlists"), the underflow can now actually be
triggered.  When invoking a KEYCTL_PKEY_ENCRYPT system call with a
larger "out_len" than "in_len" and filling the "in" buffer with zeroes,
crypto_akcipher_sync_prep() will create an all-zero scatterlist used for
both the "src" and "dst" member of struct akcipher_request and thereby
fulfil the conditions to trigger the bug:

  sys_keyctl()
    keyctl_pkey_e_d_s()
      asymmetric_key_eds_op()
        software_key_eds_op()
          crypto_akcipher_sync_encrypt()
            crypto_akcipher_sync_prep()
              crypto_akcipher_encrypt()
                rsa_enc()
                  mpi_read_raw_from_sgl()

To the user this will be visible as a DoS as the kernel spins forever,
causing soft lockup splats as a side effect.

Fix it.

Patch series "Minor hmm_test fixes and cleanups".

Two bugfixes a cleanup for the HMM kernel selftests.  These were mostly
reported by Zenghui Yu with special thanks to Lorenzo for analysing and
pointing out the problems.

This patch (of 3):

When dmirror_fops_release() is called it frees the dmirror struct but
doesn't migrate device private pages back to system memory first.  This
leaves those pages with a dangling zone_device_data pointer to the freed
dmirror.

If a subsequent fault occurs on those pages (eg.  during coredump) the
dmirror_devmem_fault() callback dereferences the stale pointer causing a
kernel panic.  This was reported [1] when running mm/ksft_hmm.sh on arm64,
where a test failure triggered SIGABRT and the resulting coredump walked
the VMAs faulting in the stale device private pages.

Fix this by calling dmirror_device_evict_chunk() for each devmem chunk in
dmirror_fops_release() to migrate all device private pages back to system
memory before freeing the dmirror struct.  The function is moved earlier
in the file to avoid a forward declaration.

gcc-16 has gained some more advanced inter-procedual optimization
techniques that enable it to inline the dummy_tlb_add_page() and
dummy_tlb_flush() function pointers into a specialized version of
__arm_v7s_unmap:

>From what I can tell, the transformation is correct, as this is only
called when __arm_v7s_unmap() is called from arm_v7s_do_selftests(),
which is also __init. Since __arm_v7s_unmap() however is not __init,
gcc cannot inline the inner function calls directly.

In debug_objects_selftest(), the same thing happens. Both the
caller and the leaf function are __init, but the IPA pulls
it into a non-init one:

WARNING: modpost: vmlinux: section mismatch in reference: lookup_object_or_alloc+0x7c (section: .text.lookup_object_or_alloc) -> is_static_object (section: .init.text)

Marking the affected functions as not "__init" would reliably avoid this
issue but is not a good solution because it removes an otherwise correct
annotation. I tried marking the functions as 'noinline', but that ended
up not covering all the affected configurations.

With some more experimenting, I found that marking these functions as
__attribute__((noipa)) is both logical and reliable.

In order to keep the syntax readable, add a custom macro for this in
include/linux/compiler_attributes.h next to other related macros and
use it to annotate both files.

confusing.

Josh LawandGreg Kroah-Hartman da50cf7fea lib/ts_kmp: fix integer overflow in pattern length calculation

The ts_kmp algorithm stores its prefix_tbl[] table and pattern in a single
allocation sized from the pattern length.  If the prefix_tbl[] size
calculation wraps, the resulting allocation can be too small and
subsequent pattern copies can overflow it.

Fix this by rejecting zero-length patterns and by using overflow helpers
before calculating the combined allocation size.


This fixes a potential heap overflow.  The pattern length calculation can
wrap during a size_t addition, leading to an undersized allocation.
Because the textsearch library is reachable from userspace via Netfilter's
xt_string module, this is a security risk that should be backported to LTS
kernels.

Eric BiggersandGreg Kroah-Hartman bd62d9b444 lib/crypto: chacha: Zeroize permuted_state before it leaves scope

Since the ChaCha permutation is invertible, the local variable
'permuted_state' is sufficient to compute the original 'state', and thus
the key, even after the permutation has been done.

While the kernel is quite inconsistent about zeroizing secrets on the
stack (and some prominent userspace crypto libraries don't bother at all
since it's not guaranteed to work anyway), the kernel does try to do it
as a best practice, especially in cases involving the RNG.

Thus, explicitly zeroize 'permuted_state' before it goes out of scope.

__NLA_IS_BEINT_TYPE(tp) isn't useful.  NLA_BE16/32 are identical to
NLA_U16/32, the only difference is that it tells the netlink validation
functions that byteorder conversion might be needed before comparing
the value to the policy min/max ones.

After this change all policy macros that can be used with UINT types,
such as NLA_POLICY_MASK() can also be used with NLA_BE16/32.

This will be used to validate nf_tables flag attributes which
are in bigendian byte order.

Josh LawandGreg Kroah-Hartman 8e0b204c47 lib/bootconfig: check xbc_init_node() return in override path

The ':=' override path in xbc_parse_kv() calls xbc_init_node() to
re-initialize an existing value node but does not check the return
value. If xbc_init_node() fails (data offset out of range), parsing
silently continues with stale node data.

Add the missing error check to match the xbc_add_node() call path
which already checks for failure.

In practice, a bootconfig using ':=' to override a value near the
32KB data limit could silently retain the old value, meaning a
security-relevant boot parameter override (e.g., a trace filter or
debug setting) would not take effect as intended.

The bounds check for brace_index happens after the array write.
While the current call pattern prevents an actual out-of-bounds
access (the previous call would have returned an error), the
write-before-check pattern is fragile and would become a real
out-of-bounds write if the error return were ever not propagated.

Move the bounds check before the array write so the function is
self-contained and safe regardless of caller behavior.

snprintf() returns the number of characters that would have been
written excluding the NUL terminator.  Output is truncated when the
return value is >= the buffer size, not just > the buffer size.

When ret == size, the current code takes the non-truncated path,
advancing buf by ret and reducing size to 0.  This is wrong because
the output was actually truncated (the last character was replaced by
NUL).  Fix by using >= so the truncation path is taken correctly.

__xbc_open_brace() pushes entries with post-increment
(open_brace[brace_index++]), so brace_index always points one past
the last valid entry.  xbc_verify_tree() reads open_brace[brace_index]
to report which brace is unclosed, but this is one past the last
pushed entry and contains stale/zero data, causing the error message
to reference the wrong node.

Use open_brace[brace_index - 1] to correctly identify the unclosed
brace.  brace_index is known to be > 0 here since we are inside the
if (brace_index) guard.

Note that a deadlock like this is only possible if the bdi has configured
maximum fraction of writeout throughput which is very rare in general but
frequent for example for FUSE bdis.  To fix this problem we have to make
sure write section of the sequence counter is irqsafe.

maple_tree tracepoints contain pointers to function names. Such a pointer
is saved when a tracepoint logs an event. There's no guarantee that it's
still valid when the event is parsed later and the pointer is dereferenced.

The kernel warns about these unsafe pointers.

	event 'ma_read' has unsafe pointer field 'fn'
	WARNING: kernel/trace/trace.c:3779 at ignore_event+0x1da/0x1e4

Mark the function names as tracepoint_string() to fix the events.

One case that doesn't work without my patch would be trace-cmd record
to save the binary ringbuffer and trace-cmd report to parse it in
userspace.  The address of __func__ can't be dereferenced from
userspace but tracepoint_string will add an entry to
/sys/kernel/tracing/printk_formats

Due to compiler optimizations like inlining, there are cases where
MMIO traces using _THIS_IP_ for caller information might not be
sufficient to provide accurate debug traces.

1) With optimizations (Seen with GCC):

In this case, _THIS_IP_ works fine and prints the caller information
since it will be inlined into the caller and we get the debug traces
on who made the MMIO access, for ex:

rwmmio_read: qcom_smmu_tlb_sync+0xe0/0x1b0 width=32 addr=0xffff8000087447f4
rwmmio_post_read: qcom_smmu_tlb_sync+0xe0/0x1b0 width=32 val=0x0 addr=0xffff8000087447f4

2) Without optimizations (Seen with Clang):

_THIS_IP_ will not be sufficient in this case as it will print only
the MMIO accessors itself which is of not much use since it is not
inlined as below for example:

rwmmio_read: readl+0x4/0x80 width=32 addr=0xffff8000087447f4
rwmmio_post_read: readl+0x48/0x80 width=32 val=0x4 addr=0xffff8000087447f4

So in order to handle this second case as well irrespective of the compiler
optimizations, add _RET_IP_ to MMIO trace to make it provide more accurate
debug information in all these scenarios.

Before:

When KASAN is disabled, there are still spills but not at many and the

Disable KASAN for this file when using clang-17 or older to avoid
blowing out the stack, clearing up the warning.

Linus TorvaldsandGreg Kroah-Hartman 7d4fa074a2 minmax: make generic MIN() and MAX() macros available everywhere

This just standardizes the use of MIN() and MAX() macros, with the very
traditional semantics.  The goal is to use these for C constant
expressions and for top-level / static initializers, and so be able to
simplify the min()/max() macros.

These macro names were used by various kernel code - they are very
traditional, after all - and all such users have been fixed up, with a
few different approaches:

 - trivial duplicated macro definitions have been removed

   Note that 'trivial' here means that it's obviously kernel code that
   already included all the major kernel headers, and thus gets the new
   generic MIN/MAX macros automatically.

 - non-trivial duplicated macro definitions are guarded with #ifndef

   This is the "yes, they define their own versions, but no, the include
   situation is not entirely obvious, and maybe they don't get the
   generic version automatically" case.

 - strange use case #1

   A couple of drivers decided that the way they want to describe their
   versioning is with

	#define MAJ 1
	#define MIN 2
	#define DRV_VERSION __stringify(MAJ) "." __stringify(MIN)

   which adds zero value and I just did my Alexander the Great
   impersonation, and rewrote that pointless Gordian knot as

	#define DRV_VERSION "1.2"

   instead.

 - strange use case #2

   A couple of drivers thought that it's a good idea to have a random
   'MIN' or 'MAX' define for a value or index into a table, rather than
   the traditional macro that takes arguments.

   These values were re-written as C enum's instead. The new
   function-line macros only expand when followed by an open
   parenthesis, and thus don't clash with enum use.

Happily, there weren't really all that many of these cases, and a lot of
users already had the pattern of using '#ifndef' guarding (or in one
case just using '#undef MIN') before defining their own private version
that does the same thing. I left such cases alone.

Patch series "New page table range API", v6.

This patchset changes the API used by the MM to set up page table entries.
The four APIs are:

    set_ptes(mm, addr, ptep, pte, nr)
    update_mmu_cache_range(vma, addr, ptep, nr)
    flush_dcache_folio(folio)
    flush_icache_pages(vma, page, nr)

flush_dcache_folio() isn't technically new, but no architecture
implemented it, so I've done that for them.  The old APIs remain around
but are mostly implemented by calling the new interfaces.

The new APIs are based around setting up N page table entries at once.
The N entries belong to the same PMD, the same folio and the same VMA, so
ptep++ is a legitimate operation, and locking is taken care of for you.
Some architectures can do a better job of it than just a loop, but I have
hesitated to make too deep a change to architectures I don't understand
well.

One thing I have changed in every architecture is that PG_arch_1 is now a
per-folio bit instead of a per-page bit when used for dcache clean/dirty
tracking.  This was something that would have to happen eventually, and it
makes sense to do it now rather than iterate over every page involved in a
cache flush and figure out if it needs to happen.

The point of all this is better performance, and Fengwei Yin has measured
improvement on x86.  I suspect you'll see improvement on your architecture

You'll need to run it on an XFS filesystem and have
CONFIG_TRANSPARENT_HUGEPAGE set.

This patchset is the basis for much of the anonymous large folio work
being done by Ryan, so it's received quite a lot of testing over the last
few months.

This patch (of 38):

Determine if a value lies within a range more efficiently (subtraction +
comparison vs two comparisons and an AND).  It also has useful (under some
circumstances) behaviour if the range exceeds the maximum value of the
type.  Convert all the conflicting definitions of in_range() within the
kernel; some can use the generic definition while others need their own
definition.

the maple tree has only the root node.

The reason is mt_destroy_walk() leverage mte_destroy_descend() to set node
dead, but this is skipped since the only root node is a leaf.

Temporarily clear the preallocation flag when explicitly requesting
allocations.  Pre-existing allocations are already counted against the
request through mas_node_count_gfp(), but the allocations will not happen
if the MA_STATE_PREALLOC flag is set.  This flag is meant to avoid
re-allocating in bulk allocation mode, and to detect issues with
preallocation calculations.

The MA_STATE_PREALLOC flag should also always be set on zero allocations
so that detection of underflow allocations will print a WARN_ON() during
consumption.

User visible effect of this flaw is a WARN_ON() followed by a null pointer
dereference when subsequent requests for larger number of nodes is
ignored, such as the vma merge retry in mmap_region() caused by drivers
altering the vma flags (which happens in v6.6, at least)

The longest length of a symbol (KSYM_NAME_LEN) was increased to 512
in the reference [1]. This patch adds kunit test suite to check the longest
symbol length. These tests verify that the longest symbol length defined
is supported.

This test can also help other efforts for longer symbol length,
like [2].

The test suite defines one symbol with the longest possible length.

The first test verify that functions with names of the created
symbol, can be called or not.

The second test, verify that the symbols are created (or
not) in the kernel symbol table.

pldmfw calls crc32 code and depends on it being enabled, else
there is a link error as follows. So PLDMFW should select CRC32.

This problem was introduced by commit b8265621f4 ("Add pldmfw library
for PLDM firmware update").

It manifests as of commit d69ea414c9 ("ice: implement device flash
update via devlink").

And is more likely to occur as of commit 9ad19171b6 ("lib/crc: remove
unnecessary prompt for CONFIG_CRC32 and drop 'default y'").

Found by chance while exercising builds based on tinyconfig.

checked for output overruns.  It instead assumes that the caller
always provides enough buffer space, disregarding the buffer length

Jing SuandGreg Kroah-Hartman 2d905fdb7f dql: Fix dql->limit value when reset.

Executing dql_reset after setting a non-zero value for limit_min can
lead to an unreasonable situation where dql->limit is less than
dql->limit_min.

For instance, after setting
/sys/class/net/eth*/queues/tx-0/byte_queue_limits/limit_min,
an ifconfig down/up operation might cause the ethernet driver to call
netdev_tx_reset_queue, which in turn invokes dql_reset.

In this case, dql->limit is reset to 0 while dql->limit_min remains
non-zero value, which is unexpected. The limit should always be
greater than or equal to limit_min.

As there is no guarantee the compiler will order the local variables
as declared in the module:

The call to read_word_at_a_time() in sized_strscpy() is problematic
with MTE because it may trigger a tag check fault when reading
across a tag granule (16 bytes) boundary. To make this code
MTE compatible, let's start using load_unaligned_zeropad()
on architectures where it is available (i.e. architectures that
define CONFIG_DCACHE_WORD_ACCESS). Because load_unaligned_zeropad()
takes care of page boundaries as well as tag granule boundaries,
also disable the code preventing crossing page boundaries when using
load_unaligned_zeropad().

The split_sg_phys function was incorrectly setting the offsets of all
scatterlist entries (except the first) to 0.  Only the first scatterlist
entry's offset and length needs to be modified to account for the skip.
Setting the rest entries' offsets to 0 could lead to incorrect data
access.

I am using this function in a crypto driver that I'm currently developing
(not yet sent to mailing list).  During testing, it was observed that the
output scatterlists (except the first one) contained incorrect garbage
data.

I narrowed this issue down to the call of sg_split().  Upon debugging
inside this function, I found that this resetting of offset is the cause
of the problem, causing the subsequent scatterlists to point to incorrect
memory locations in a page.  By removing this code, I am obtaining
expected data in all the split output scatterlists.  Thus, this was indeed
causing observable runtime effects!

This patch removes the offending code, ensuring that the page offsets in
the input scatterlist are preserved in the output scatterlist.

The 'device_name' array doesn't exist out of the
'overflow_allocation_test' function scope. However, it is being used as
a driver name when calling 'kunit_driver_create' from
'kunit_device_register'. It produces the kernel panic with KASAN
enabled.

Since this variable is used in one place only, remove it and pass the
device name into kunit_device_register directly as an ascii string.

  The memory areas backing the file created with memfd_secret(2) are
  visible only to the processes that have access to the file descriptor.
  The memory region is removed from the kernel page tables and only the
  page tables of the processes holding the file descriptor map the
  corresponding physical memory. (Thus, the pages in the region can't be
  accessed by the kernel itself, so that, for example, pointers to the
  region can't be passed to system calls.)

We need to handle this special case gracefully in build ID fetching
code. Return -EFAULT whenever secretmem file is passed to build_id_parse()

The current calculation for splitting nodes tries to enforce a minimum
span on the leaf nodes.  This code is complex and never worked correctly
to begin with, due to the min value being passed as 0 for all leaves.

The calculation should just split the data as equally as possible
between the new nodes.  Note that b_end will be one more than the data,
so the left side is still favoured in the calculation.

The current code may also lead to a deficient node by not leaving enough
data for the right side of the split. This issue is also addressed with
the split calculation change.

Carlos LlamasandGreg Kroah-Hartman 448c419de6 lockdep: Fix upper limit for LOCKDEP_*_BITS configs

Lockdep has a set of configs used to determine the size of the static
arrays that it uses. However, the upper limit that was initially setup
for these configs is too high (30 bit shift). This equates to several
GiB of static memory for individual symbols. Using such high values
leads to linker errors:

  $ make defconfig
  $ ./scripts/config -e PROVE_LOCKING --set-val LOCKDEP_BITS 30
  $ make olddefconfig all
  [...]
  ld: kernel image bigger than KERNEL_IMAGE_SIZE
  ld: section .bss VMA wraps around address space

Adjust the upper limits to the maximum values that avoid these issues.
The need for anything more, likely points to a problem elsewhere. Note
that LOCKDEP_CHAINS_BITS was intentionally left out as its upper limit
had a different symptom and has already been fixed [1].

Currently, when storing NULL on mas_store_root(), the behavior could be
improved.

Storing NULLs over the entire tree may result in a node being used to
store a single range.  Further stores of NULL may cause the node and
tree to be corrupt and cause incorrect behaviour.  Fixing the store to
the root null fixes the issue by ensuring that a range of 0 - ULONG_MAX
results in an empty tree.

Users of the tree may experience incorrect values returned if the tree
was expanded to store values, then overwritten by all NULLS, then
continued to store NULLs over the empty area.

For example possible cases are:

  * store NULL at any range result a new node
  * store NULL at range [m, n] where m > 0 to a single entry tree result
    a new node with range [m, n] set to NULL
  * store NULL at range [m, n] where m > 0 to an empty tree result
    consecutive NULL slot
  * it allows for multiple NULL entries by expanding root
    to store NULLs to an empty tree

This patch tries to improve in:

  * memory efficient by setting to empty tree instead of using a node
  * remove the possibility of consecutive NULL slot which will prohibit
    extended null in later operation
