The reason is that `rusttest` builds the kernel crate as a host
library: it passes the `CONFIG_*` cfgs of the configured architecture,
but not `--target`, so code generation happens for the
host. `arch_static_branch!` then selects the arch-specific inline asm
arm based on CONFIG_*, and the host assembler rejects it.
This does not happen with the current master because
`arch_static_branch!` has no user inside the kernel crate itself yet,
but fix it now to avoid surprises later.

- Rework module ownership support:

make the 'THIS_MODULE' pointer a constant of 'ModuleMetadata'
so that modules can provide the pointer in const contexts, and
add a 'this_module' 'const fn' to retrieve it
This was enabled by upstream Rust's work on the 'const_mut_refs'
and 'const_refs_to_static' features which were stabilized back
in Rust 1.83.0
- Teach '#[vtable]' to associate implementations with their
owning module, defaulting to the local one, including fallbacks
for doctests, uses within the 'kernel' crate (like upcoming
KUnit '#[test]'s for DRM) and 'rusttest'
- Set 'fops.owner' from the module pointer for DRM and
miscdevice
- Migrate Rust Binder and configfs away from the old
'THIS_MODULE' 'static' and finally remove it from the 'module!'
macro
- 'num' module:
- Add the new 'casts' module for lossless integer conversions
Rust's 'core' library's 'From' implementations do not cover
conversions that are not portable or future-proof. However, the
kernel supports a narrower set of architectures, which makes it
helpful to provide more infallible conversions, instead of
having developers use 'as' casts, which carry the risk of
silently losing data
This goes along with previous work we did to avoid casts in
Rust kernel code since they are more powerful than needed
Thus, provide safe 'const' conversion functions (e.g.
'usize_as_u64' and 'u64_into_u8'), as well as the
'FromSafeCast' and 'IntoSafeCast' extension traits that provide
conversions that are known to be lossless in the kernel, and an
'arch' submodule defining conversions that are known to be
lossless on particular architectures (e.g. 64-bit platforms).

rejecting, at compile-time, shifts of at least the type's bit
width
- 'fmt' module:
- Route '{:p}' raw pointer formatting through the kernel's hashed
'%p' format to prevent address leaks, including support for
width and padding. Include tests for both 'no_hash_pointers'
case and the default (hashed) one
- Fix the '{:p}' forwarding implementation, which could print the
address of a temporary stack variable
- 'time' module:
- Make 'Delta' generic over its time unit, with a default unit of
nanoseconds ('Nsec'), preserving the existing behavior. Then,
add a 'Jiffy' time unit
- Add the 'Delta::as_millis_ceil()' method
- Fix 'as_micros_ceil()' rounding near 'i64::MAX', which could
yield a result one microsecond too small
- 'sync' module:
- Implement 'ForeignOwnable' for 'ARef<T>', allowing C code to
own an 'ARef<T>'
- Add a safe abstraction for 'rcu_barrier()'
- 'error' module: add all of the remaining error codes, except the
deprecated compatibility aliases
- 'bug' module:
- Fix build error on UML in 'warn_on!' for callers from within
the 'kernel' crate
- Fix future 'dead_code' warning on arm and loongarch64 and under
'CONFIG_BUG=n' in 'warn_on!', which would trigger with the
upcoming SRCU abstractions
- Fix future build error in 'rusttest' on cross-compilation
cases, which would trigger when 'warn_on!' has callers inside
the 'kernel' crate
- 'bitfield' module: fix build error for the upcoming support for

rust: add functions and traits for lossless integer conversions
The core library's `From` implementations do not cover conversions that are not portable or future-proof. For instance, even though it is safe today, `From<usize>` is not implemented for `u64` because of the possibility of supporting larger-than-64bit architectures in the future. However, the kernel supports a narrower set of architectures, with a considerable amount of code that is architecture-specific. This makes it helpful and desirable to provide more infallible conversions, lest we rely on the `as` keyword and carry the risk of silently losing data. Thus, introduce a new module `num::casts` that provides safe const functions performing more conversions allowed by the build target, as well as `FromSafeCast` and `IntoSafeCast` traits that are just extensions of `From` and `Into` to conversions that are known to be lossless. Some conversions are architecture-specific: for instance, converting a `u64` to a `usize` is only lossless on 64-bit platforms. These conversions are made available via a dedicated `arch` sub-module. Define a custom `kernel::fmt::Pointer` trait and `HashedPtr` wrapper
so that `{:p}` formatting uses the kernel's `%p` hashed format instead
of printing raw pointer values, preventing kernel address space leaks.

rust: fmt: fix {:p} printing stack addresses
The `impl_fmt_adapter_forward!` macro forwards `Pointer` for
`Adapter<T>` by destructuring `self` into a local `t`, causing `{:p}`
to print the address of that temporary stack variable rather than the
actual pointer.
Remove `Pointer` from the macro and provide a manual impl for
`Adapter<&T>` that passes `self.0` directly.

Since `const_refs_to_static` has been stable as of the MSRV bump, a `ThisModule` pointer can now be used in const contexts. Add a `THIS_MODULE` const to the `ModuleMetadata` trait so that modules can provide their `ThisModule` pointer in const contexts such as static `file_operations`. Add a `this_module()` helper to retrieve the `THIS_MODULE` pointer of a given module type, and update `__init` to use it instead of the `THIS_MODULE` static generated by the `module!` macro. The `static THIS_MODULE` generated by the `module!` macro is retained for backwards compatibility with existing users and removed in a later patch once all references have been migrated. rust: module: move module types into module.rs
Move `Module`, `InPlaceModule`, `ModuleMetadata` and `ThisModule` from `lib.rs` into a new `rust/kernel/module.rs`. Re-export them from `lib.rs` to avoid tree-wide changes. Switch six bus driver registrations from `module.0` to the public `ThisModule::as_ptr()` accessor, since the field is no longer visible outside the new `module` submodule. No functional change. Add a Jiffy time unit with isize as its representation and provide Delta<Jiffy>::from_jiffies() and as_jiffies() as the unit-specific constructor and accessor, mirroring from_nanos()/as_nanos() on the nanosecond Delta. Delta hardcodes its value as i64 nanoseconds. A later patch adds a jiffies span, whose natural representation is isize jiffies rather than i64 nanoseconds, and a separate type per unit would duplicate the arithmetic and comparison machinery. Make Delta generic over its time unit so the jiffies span can reuse that machinery. The nanosecond Delta keeps its current representation and API via the default unit parameter, so no functional change. The reason is that `rusttest` builds the `kernel` crate as a host
library: it passes the `CONFIG_*` cfgs of the configured architecture,
but not `--target`, so code generation happens for the
host. `warn_flags!` then selects the arch-specific inline asm arm
based on `CONFIG_*`, and the host assembler rejects it.
This does not happen with the current `master` because `warn_on!` has
no user inside the `kernel` crate itself yet, but it will as soon as
one is added.

The warn_on! macro always defines a WARN_ON_FLAGS constant and hands it
to warn_flags!. On configurations where warn_flags! does not reference
its flags argument (the LOONGARCH/ARM variant, which only calls

warn_flags! is the macro that accepts (and here discards) the flags

The doc examples in io.rs and devres.rs directly call
bindings::ioremap() and bindings::iounmap(), which do not exist when
CONFIG_HAS_IOMEM is not set. This causes build failures with

Guard the C helpers behind #ifdef CONFIG_HAS_IOMEM and cfg-gate the Rust
io::mem module, such that IoMem, ExclusiveIoMem and IoRequest are not
available without CONFIG_HAS_IOMEM.
Note that the C API is inconsistent about this. For instance,
devm_ioremap() has no stub and produces a link failure without
CONFIG_HAS_IOMEM, whereas devm_platform_ioremap_resource() provides an
inline stub returning -EINVAL.
The approach taken here (compile-time gating) matches the former, which
is slightly more appropriate since any driver performing MMIO currently
requires CONFIG_HAS_IOMEM.
Ideally, s390 should provide ioremap()/iounmap() stubs unconditionally
(as UML already does), removing the need for any config gating as
discussed in [1]; a follow-up patch for s390 is expected.

rust: cpufreq: Fix temporary write in Registration::bios_limit_callback
In `Registration::bios_limit_callback`, the expression
`&mut (unsafe { *limit })` creates a reference to a temporary copy
of the value pointed to by `limit` on the stack.
Therefore, writes made by `T::bios_limit` go to this temporary
instead of the memory location pointed to by `limit`.
Additionally, `limit` may be uninitialized, such as when
`Registration::bios_limit_callback` is invoked by `show_bios_limit`
in drivers/cpufreq/cpufreq.c. Therefore creating a reference to
`limit` is unsound.
Fix this by changing the signature of `T::bios_limit` to return the limit
value.
`Registration::bios_limit_callback` can then update `limit` directly.

rust: cpufreq: Add CPUFREQ_TABLE_END as last table entry in TableBuilder::to_table
The `TableBuilder::to_table` function adds `Hertz(c_ulong::MAX).as_khz()`
as the last frequency entry in the frequency table.
But the C API expects the last entry to have frequency set to
`CPUFREQ_TABLE_END` which is `~1u` as per include/linux/cpufreq.h.
Fix this by setting the last frequency entry to `CPUFREQ_TABLE_END`
instead of `Hertz(c_ulong::MAX).as_khz()`.

rust: time: fix as_micros_ceil() to round correctly for negative Delta
The ceiling-division idiom `(n + d - 1) / d` only produces the
correct result when `n` is non-negative.
For example, if n = -1000 (exactly -1us), the old code computed (-1000
+ 999) / 1000 == 0 instead of -1.
For negative n, truncating division already rounds towards positive
infinity, so no bias is needed in that case.

[ I was doubly surprised since upstream made it a deny-by-default lint
a year ago for Rust 1.91.0, and yet we didn't see it; plus I hadn't
seen this in my CI even yesterday.
It turns out this just landed into today's nightly (nightly-2026-07-16,
using upstream commit d0babd8b6):

cpufreq: intel_pstate: Adjust the .adjust_perf() driver callback
In some cases, the processor may not actually stick to the "desired" performance level programmed through the driver's .adjust_perf() callback and may go above it, which may not be desirable (for instance, there may be a UCLAMP_MAX limit set for the task currently running on the given CPU which should be respected). Address that by adjusting the .adjust_perf() callback to take an additional argument, max_perf, representing the maximum allowed performance level of the CPU and update the intel_pstate driver to take that argument into account as appropriate. Accordingly, adjust cpufreq_driver_adjust_perf() and the other existing user of .adjust_perf(), which is the amd-pstate driver (but the behavior of that driver is not changed). While at it, also update the cpufreq_driver_adjust_perf() documentation to reflect this change and some previous code changes that have not been taken into account in it. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. kunit,rust: Add ability to skip entire test suites
Currently, KUnit provides mechanisms to skip individual test cases, but there is no way to skip an entire test suite based on runtime conditions checked during suite initialization. This limitation forces test suites to either fail or skip tests individually when certain prerequisites are not available. To address this limitation, the patch adds a 'status' field to struct kunit_suite that allows suite_init callbacks to mark the entire suite as KUNIT_SKIPPED. When a suite is marked as skipped, all test cases within that suite are bypassed without execution. The patch proposed changes to kunit_suite_has_succeeded() to Check suite status before evaluating individual test case results. Also kunit_run_tests() is updated to skip suite execution if kunit_suite's 'status' is KUNIT_SKIPPED, thats either set before suite_init or by the suite_init callback itself. kunit_init_suite() is updated to initialize the 'status' of kunit_suite to KUNIT_SUCCESS so that any skipped suite's can be restarted from debugfs. This enables test suites to perform runtime capability checks in their 'suite_init' callback and gracefully skip all tests when prerequisites are not met, rather than reporting failures or requiring each test case to perform redundant checks. In case a kunit-suite is skipped it can be re-run from the kunit's debugfs interface. Also update debugfs_print_results() to clearly log the kunit-suite as 'SKIP'. kunit_suite_has_succeeded() is also updated on which debugfs_print_results() depends to update 'kunit_suite.status' in case any of the kunit_case has failed. Finally, update KUnit Rust binding macro-rule 'kunit_unsafe_test_suite' to add and initialize the newly introduced 'kunit_suite.status'. Without this 'kunit_suite.status' field is never initialized which is an error for the Rust compiler.
