This is a cleanup to prepare for the addition of 64-bit time_t in O_SNDTIMEO/O_RCVTIMEO. The existing compat handler seems unnecessarily complex and error-prone, moving it all into the main setsockopt()/getsockopt() implementation requires half as much code and is easier to extend. 32-bit user space can now use old_timeval32 on both 32-bit and 64-bit machines, while 64-bit code can use __old_kernel_timeval. be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
