With `-enable-experimental-string-processing`,
start lexing `'` delimiters as regex literals (this
is just a placeholder delimiter for now). The
contents of which gets passed to the libswift
library, which can return an error string to be
emitted, or null for success.
The libswift side isn't yet hooked up to the Swift
regex parser, so for now just emit a dummy
diagnostic for regexes starting with quantifiers.
If successful, build an AST node which will be
emitted as an implicit call to an
`init(_regexString:)` initializer of an in-scope
`Regex` decl (which will eventually be a known
stdlib decl).
Previously, when we reached the maximum nesting level, we changed the current token’s kind to an EOF token. A lot of places in the parser are not set up to expect this token change. The intended workaround was to check whether pushing a structure marker failed (which would change the token kind) and bail out parsing if this happened. This was fragile and caused assertion failures in assert builds.
Instead of changing the current token’s kind, and failing to push the structure marker, let the lexer know that it should cut off lexing, essentially making the input buffer stop at the current position. The parser will continue to consume its current token (`Parser.Tok`) and the next token that’s already lexed in the lexer (`Lexer.NextToken`) before reaching the emulated EOF token. Thus two more tokens are parsed than before, but that shouldn’t make much of a difference.
Split up the expr list parsing members such that
there are separate entry points for tuple and
argument list parsing, and start using the argument
list parsing member for call and subscripts.
With the introduction of `isolated` as
a type modifier for actor types, the
parsing of a parameter regressed such
that `isolated` was no longer accepted
as an ordinary argument label. This patch
fixes that and adds a little lookahead
utility to clean-up the code that
disambiguates the uses of `isolated`
as either a label or a type modifier.

The parsing of Swift 1.0 beta-1 array syntax (e.g., `Int [something]`)
was preventing closures with both a custom attribute (e.g.,
`@MainActor) and a capture list from parsing correctly. Don't parse
that syntax within custom attributes.
Fixes rdar://77303587.
In addition to importing Swift attributes spelled with the C
`__attribute__((swift_attr("...")))`, also import declaration modifiers,
including `nonisolated`.
Fixes rdar://79402200.
The notion of "actor-isolated" currently exists at the declaration level.
For functions, it is going to be captured in the function type itself,
where 'self' is declared to be 'isolated'. Model isolation both
ways: the 'self' of a method that is isolated to an actor instance
will be 'isolated' as well.
We are still using declaration-based checking of actor isolation.
However, by mirroring this information we can move more incrementally
over to doing checking based on 'isolated' parameters.

Due to https://github.com/apple/swift/pull/36552, parsing the code completion token as a type inside a generic parameter list no longer fails. Instead, it consumes the code completion token as a type identifier. However, since `parseExprIdentifer` does not return a `ParserStatus`, the information whether a code completion token was consumed gets lost, causing `setCodeCompletionDelayedDeclState` to not be called and thus no code completion results show up.
To resolve this, make `parseExprIdentifier` return its `ParserStatus` through a `ParserResult`.
Fixes rdar://76335452 [SR-14432]
In particular, we were unconditionally dropping argument labels on accessors; now we only do that for property accessors, not subscript accessors.
Doing this unconditionally causes ClangImporter failures when a method parameter is called “subscript” (really!), so this behavior is enabled only by the caller’s request.
Extend the parsing of custom attributes to apply to types. Improve the
lookahead for the arguments so we don't arbitrarily consume the parameter
list of a function type as an attribute argument, or consume a tuple type
as the attribute argument.
Doesn't actually change behavior, because after parsing the custom
attribute on a type, we reject it as an unknown attribute.
It turns out that the bitpacked Commons struct is actually fairly expensive because the CPU needs to apply bitmasks to fetch the IsToken and Presence flag. We've got padding space available, so we might as well properly align these boolean flags.
Also on a source level, replace a couple of bit-restricted unsigned fields by their representing type (e.g. SyntaxKind).
Finally, we can pull out the common bits to RawSyntax and have the Bits union only contain the token- or layout-specific fields.
This also allows us to initialise these fields in the constructor's initialiser list (instead of in the initialiser body).
Lastly, change copyToArenaIfNecessary to work on a char *& and length, which allows us to initialise leading/trailing trivia/token text in the initialiser list and adjust if necessary later.
For backtracking scopes that are never cancelled, we can completely disable the SyntaxParsingContext, avoiding the creation of deferred nodes which will never get recorded.
Small peformance improvement: Token is larger than a pointer and not
modified in the performance-criticial TokenReceivers, so we can pass
it by reference.
Instead, only reference count the SyntaxArena that the RawSyntax nodes
live in. The user of RawSyntax nodes must guarantee that the SyntaxArena
stays alive as long as the RawSyntax nodes are being accessed.
During parse time, the SyntaxTreeCreator holds on to the SyntaxArena
in which it creates RawSyntax nodes. When inspecting a syntax tree,
the root SyntaxData node keeps the SyntaxArena alive. The change should
be mostly invisible to the users of the public libSyntax API.
This change significantly decreases the overall reference-counting
overhead. Since we were not able to free individual RawSyntax nodes
anyway, performing the reference-counting on the level of the
SyntaxArena feels natural.
Compiler:
- Add `Forward` and `Reverse` to `DifferentiabilityKind`.
- Expand `DifferentiabilityMask` in `ExtInfo` to 3 bits so that it now holds all 4 cases of `DifferentiabilityKind`.
- Parse `@differentiable(reverse)` and `@differentiable(_forward)` declaration attributes and type attributes.
- Emit a warning for `@differentiable` without `reverse`.
- Emit an error for `@differentiable(_forward)`.
- Rename `@differentiable(linear)` to `@differentiable(_linear)`.
- Make `@differentiable(reverse)` type lowering go through today's `@differentiable` code path. We will specialize it to reverse-mode in a follow-up patch.
ABI:
- Add `Forward` and `Reverse` to `FunctionMetadataDifferentiabilityKind`.
- Extend `TargetFunctionTypeFlags` by 1 bit to store the highest bit of differentiability kind (linear). Note that there is a 2-bit gap in `DifferentiabilityMask` which is reserved for `AsyncMask` and `ConcurrentMask`; `AsyncMask` is ABI-stable so we cannot change that.
_Differentiation module:
- Replace all occurrences of `@differentiable` with `@differentiable(reverse)`.
- Delete `_transpose(of:)`.
Resolves rdar://69980056.
This is an intermediate state in which the lexer delegates the
responsibility for trivia lexing to the parser. Later, the parser will
delegate this responsibility to SyntaxParsingContext which will hand it
over to SyntaxParseAction, which will only lex the pieces if it is
really necessary to do so.
Our name lookup rules for the resolution of custom attributes don't
allow for them to find MainActor within the _Concurrency library.
Therefore, hardcode @MainActor to map to _Concurrency.MainActor.
While here, make sure we drop concurrency-specific attributes that
show up in Clang attributes when we aren't in concurrency mode.
