when two objc async functions are composed with each other,
i.e., f(g()), then the clean-ups for g() would get emitted
at an unexpected time, namely, during the suspension for
the call to f(). This means that using a clean-up to emit
the executor-hop breadcrumb was incorrect. The hop could
appear between a get_async continuation and its matching
await_continuation, which is an unsupported nested suspension.
This commit fixes that by removing the use of the breadcrumb
clean-up in favor of providing that breadcrumb directly to
the result plan, so that it may be emitted later on when the
result plan sees fit.

Avoid a reabstraction thunk every time an async let entry point is emitted,
by setting the context abstraction level while we emit the implicit closure.
Adjust some surrounding logic that breaks when we do this:
- When lowering a non-throwing function type against a throwing abstraction
pattern, include the error type in the lowered substituted type. Async
throwing and nonthrowing functions would require another thunk to convert
away the throwingness of the async context, which would defeat the purpose.
- Adjust the code in IRGen that pads the initial context size for `async let`
entry points so that it works when the entry point has not yet emitted, by
marking the async function pointer to be padded later if it isn't defined
yet.

Since the clean-up is not unwind only, we can rely on the
clean-ups to be emitted on both result and throw paths.
This does slightly change when the hop_to_executor is emitted,
in those paths, but that shouldn't matter.
refactors solution for rdar://78982371
Calling into foreign-convention functions requires bridging, and the code
that bypassed reabstraction conversions failed to take this into account.
Fixes rdar://89319249.
SE-0338 changed the execution of non-actor async functions
so that they always hop to the generic executor, but some
functions need a way to suppress this so that they inherit
the caller's executor.
The right way to implement this is to have the caller pass
down the target executor in some reliable way and then
switch to it in all the appropriate places in the caller.
We might reasonably be able to build this on top of isolated
parameters, using some sort of default argument, or we might
need a wholly novel mechanism.
But those things are all ABI-breaking absent some sort of
guarantee about switching that we probably don't want to make,
and unfortunately we have functions in the library which we
need to export that need to inherit executors. So in the
short term, we need some unsafe way of getting back to the
previous behavior.

Because AllocBoxToStack is not able to transform every alloc_box into an
alloc_stack, it's necessary to add begin_borrow [lexical] to every
alloc_box in order to provide lexical scopes for those alloc_boxes which
will not be transformed into alloc_stacks.
This reverts commit a67a0436f7, reversing
changes made to 9965df76d0.
This commit or the earlier commit this commit is based on (#40531) broke the
incremental bot.
Update the lexing implementation to defer to the
regex library, which will pass back the pointer
from to resume lexing, and update the emission to
call the new `Regex(_regexString:version:)`
overload, that will accept the regex string with
delimiters.
Because this uses the library's lexing
implementation, the delimiters are now `'/.../'`
and `'|...|'` instead of plain `'...'`.
- Frontend: Implicitly import `_StringProcessing` when frontend flag `-enable-experimental-string-processing` is set.
- Type checker: Set a regex literal expression's type as `_StringProcessing.Regex<(Substring, DynamicCaptures)>`. `(Substring, DynamicCaptures)` is a temporary `Match` type that will help get us to an end-to-end working system. This will be replaced by actual type inference based a regex's pattern in a follow-up patch (soon).
- SILGen: Lower a regex literal expression to a call to `_StringProcessing.Regex.init(_regexString:)`.
- String processing runtime: Add `Regex`, `DynamicCaptures` (matching actual APIs in apple/swift-experimental-string-processing), and `Regex(_regexString:)`.
Upcoming:
- Build `_MatchingEngine` and `_StringProcessing` modules with sources from apple/swift-experimental-string-processing.
- Replace `DynamicCaptures` with inferred capture types.
In 1ae317dd88, all the machinery was added
to enable calling ObjC functions that have both async and error
conventions. The handling that was added for matching up arguments and
parameters, however, failed to handle functions that had both foreign
async and foreign error and other arguments. Here, that handling is
fixed.
The fix is in four parts:
- Reverting to a single call to CallSite::emit to emit the formal
params. At this point, the foreign async and/or error params will be
claimed as well.
- Separately counting the async and error parameters in
ParamLowering::claimParams to ensure we get the right parameter
slices.
- Letting ArgEmitter::maybeEmitForeignArgument look for an error
parameter even if it already found an async parameter.
- Letting ArgEmitter::maybeEmitForeignArgument keep looking for foreign
arguments after it finds one.

This was a hack needed to let CSApply re-write
IUO-returning applies, and is no longer needed now
that we can directly perform the unwrapping when
needed.
Remove the canonicalVararg parameter and
CanParamArrayRef wrapper. Almost none of the
callers want canonicalVararg, and the one that
does calls `getCanonicalType` on the result
anyway.
Just for convenicence.

Fix a miscompile where a foreign `async` call would fail to emit an
appropriate `hop_to_executor` instruction to hop back to the current
executor afterward, meaning that subsequent code would not execute on
the correct actor.
Fixes rdar://81468980.
Previously, SILGen assumed that a foreign function could either have a
foreign async convention or a foreign error convention, but if it had
both, the error would be subsumed into the completion. That resulted in
failures to emit code for async calls of functions like
```
- (BOOL)minimalWithError:(NSError* _Nullable*)error
completionHandler:(void (^ _Nonnull)(void))completionHandler;
```
Here, SILGen gains the ability to emit such functions. To enable that,
a few changes were required when both conventions are present:
- a separate argument for each convention is used
- the ResultPlan is a ForeignErrorResultPlan nesting a
ForeignAsyncResultPlan
- the continuation is always of the form UnsafeContinuation<_, Error>
regardless of whether the completion handler takes an error
- the foreign error block fills the continuation with the error that was
passed by reference out of the ObjC method call
- the foreign error block branches to the block containing the await
instruction
rdar://80704984
The two were identical and had identical fields except that ForeignInfo
still used initial capitalization for its field names. The type nested
within CalleeTypeInfo is removed and the leading caps are removed from
the top level ForeignInfo type.
SILGenApply can work with a function value at any abstraction level, so if we're loading a member out of an
aggregate that's stored at a different abstraction level than the substituted abstraction level, we can
just apply it the way it is without reabstracting.
Address a FIXME where lowered types rather than formal types were used
when converting from objc to native types which resulted in a failure to
convert block types.
