2a0cb060f8 SILGen: Look up the callee method after evaluating arguments 2017-11-08 01:31:55 -08:00

7bf3b90b62 SIL: Split off objc_method / objc_super_method from class_method / super_method
This replaces the '[volatile]' flag. Now, class_method and
super_method are only used for vtable dispatch.

The witness_method instruction is still overloaded for use
with both ObjC protocol requirements and Swift protocol
requirements; the next step is to make it only mean the
latter, also using objc_method for ObjC protocol calls.

7430a74658 [silgen] Store self as an ArgumentSource in Callee instead of as a SILValue.
This will let me treat self during delegating initialization as an lvalue and
thus be emitted later without a scope. Thus I can simplify delegating
initialization slightly and land my argument scoping work.

aa76c2a5e6 [silgen] (mark_uninitialized (project_box (alloc_box))) -> (project_box (mark_uninitialized (alloc_box)))
I put in a simple fixup pass (MarkUninitializedFixup) for staging purposes. I
don't expect it to be in tree long. I just did not feel comfortable fixing up in
1 commit all of the passes up to DI.

4444d83756 SIL: Lower captures to boxes with an appropriate generic context.
Officially kick SILBoxType over to be "nominal" in its layout, with generic layouts structurally parameterized only by formal types. Change SIL to lower a capture to a nongeneric box when possible, or a box capturing the enclosing generic context when necessary.

277608a69b Print and parse SILBoxTypes with a new syntax.
Use a syntax that declares the layout's generic parameters and fields,
followed by the generic arguments to apply to the layout:

{ var Int, let String } // A concrete box layout with a mutable Int
                          // and immutable String field
  <T, U> { var T, let U } <Int, String> // A generic box layout,
// applied to Int and String
                                        // arguments

34ec32bc14 [semantic-arc] Handle the rest of the unqualified mem opts in SILGen.
Keep in mind that these are approximations that will not impact correctness
since in all cases I ensured that the SIL will be the same after the
OwnershipModelEliminator has run. The cases that I was unsure of I commented
with SEMANTIC ARC TODO. Once we have the verifier any confusion that may have
occurred here will be dealt with.

2ccc251888 [semantic-arc] In SILGen always assign a copy_value's argument to its result.
This ensures that ownership is properly propagated forward through the use-def
graph.

This was the work that was stymied by issues relating to SILBuilder performing
local ARC dataflow. I ripped out that local dataflow in 6f4e2ab and added a
cheap ARC guaranteed dataflow pass that performs the same optimization.

Also in the process of doing this work, I found that there were many SILGen
tests that were either pattern matching in the wrong functions or had wrong
CHECK lines (for instance CHECK_NEXT). I fixed all of these issues and also
expanded many of the tests so that they verify ownership. The only work I left
for a future PR is that there are certain places in tests where we are using the
projection from an original value, instead of a copy. I marked those with a
message SEMANTIC ARC TODO so that they are easy to find.

c9ba2bf485 SILGen: Drop '_unwrapped' intrinsics and use _diagnoseUnexpectedNilOptional.
Being generic, the '_unwrapped' intrinsics force trafficking through memory, and while they're transparent so always get inlined, we don't do memory promotion in -Onone. Emitting the branch inline lets loadable optionals stay values leading to better -Onone codegen. (It also lets us throw away a surprising amount of support code for these optional intrinsics.)

8110b1ebc8 [SIL] Let alloc_box return a single value.
And use project_box to get to the address value.
SILGen now generates a project_box for each alloc_box.
And IRGen re-uses the address value from the alloc_box if the operand of project_box is an alloc_box.
This lets the generated code be the same as before.

Other than that most changes of this (quite large) commit are straightforward.

6ff2f09796 [SIL] Let alloc_stack return a single value.
Having a separate address and container value returned from alloc_stack is not really needed in SIL.
Even if they differ we have both addresses available during IRGen, because a dealloc_stack is always dominated by the corresponding alloc_stack in the same function.

Although this commit quite large, most changes are trivial. The largest non-trivial change is in IRGenSIL.

This commit is a NFC regarding the generated code. Even the generated SIL is the same (except removed #0, #1 and @local_storage).

2368ce774b Remove self types from mangling by default.
And include some supplementary mangling changes:

- Give the first generic param (depth=0, index=0) a single character mangling. Even after removing the self type from method declaration types, 'Self' still shows up very frequently in protocol requirement signatures.
- Fix the mangling of generic parameter counts to elide the count when there's only one parameter at the starting depth of the mangling.

Together these carve another 154KB out of a debug standard library. There's some awkwardness in demangled strings that I'll clean up in subsequent commits; since decl types now only mangle the number of generic params at their own depth, it's context-dependent what depths those represent, which we get wrong now. Currying markers are also wrong, but since free function currying is going away, we can mangle the partial application thunks in different ways.

d513803d84 Sigificantly replumb how SILGen generates mark_uninitialized instructions, generating
them in a more consistent and principled way. Two changes here: MUI is generated
when a vardecl is emitted, not as a separate "MarkPatternUninitialized" pass. Second,
when generating a MUI for self parameters with a temporary alloc_stack (due to the
possibility of superclass remapping of self) emit the MUI on the allocation itself,
not on the incoming argument. This is a lot more consistent (dissolving a bunch of
hacks in DI).

In terms of behavior changes, this only changes the raw sil generated by SILGen and
consumed by DI, so there is no user-visible change. This simply unblocks future work.

1eea220932 Use one module cache directory for all the lit tests to speed them up
Doing so is safe even though we have mock SDK. The include paths for
modules with the same name in the real and mock SDKs are different, and
the module files will be distinct (because they will have a different
hash).

This reduces test runtime on OS X by 30% and brings it under a minute on
a 16-core machine.

This also uncovered some problems with some tests -- even when run for
iOS configurations, some tests would still run with macosx triple. I
fixed the tests where I noticed this issue.

c16c510167 Set SILLinkage according to visibility.
Now the SILLinkage for functions and global variables is according to the swift visibility (private, internal or public).

In addition, the fact whether a function or global variable is considered as fragile, is kept in a separate flag at SIL level.
Previously the linkage was used for this (e.g. no inlining of less visible functions to more visible functions). But it had no effect,
because everything was public anyway.

For now this isFragile-flag is set for public transparent functions and for everything if a module is compiled with -sil-serialize-all,
i.e. for the stdlib.

For details see <rdar://problem/18201785> Set SILLinkage correctly and better handling of fragile functions.

The benefits of this change are:
*) Enable to eliminate unused private and internal functions
*) It should be possible now to use private in the stdlib
*) The symbol linkage is as one would expect (previously almost all symbols were public).

More details:

Specializations from fragile functions (e.g. from the stdlib) now get linkonce_odr,default
linkage instead of linkonce_odr,hidden, i.e. they have public visibility.
The reason is: if such a function is called from another fragile function (in the same module),
then it has to be visible from a third module, in case the fragile caller is inlined but not
the specialized function.

I had to update lots of test files, because many CHECK-LABEL lines include the linkage, which has changed.

The -sil-serialize-all option is now handled at SILGen and not at the Serializer.
This means that test files in sil format which are compiled with -sil-serialize-all
must have the [fragile] attribute set for all functions and globals.

The -disable-access-control option doesn't help anymore if the accessed module is not compiled
with -sil-serialize-all, because the linker will complain about unresolved symbols.

A final note: I tried to consider all the implications of this change, but it's not a low-risk change.
If you have any comments, please let me know.

4b94208eca Use extension mangling for all members of cross-module extensions.
If an entity is declared in an extension, and the extension is declared in a
different module from the type it extends, we include the extension's module
name in the mangling in addition to the extended type. We were already doing
this for functions and subscripts because of rdar://problem/18057875, but
this extends it to all declarations.

This is necessary to handle
(1) debugging private members of cross-module extensions
(2) the same member being declared in two different modules, each of which
extends a type in a third module

456284464d SILGen: Carefully preserve 'self' at +1 through init delegation.
CALayer and potentially other framework classes implement their own refcounting
schemes that assume [self retainCount] == 1 at initialization time, a guarantee
SILGen didn't attempt to meet until now. Set a flag in SILGenFunction while
doing initializer delegations to indicate that a 'self' reference can consume
the current 'self' binding, and reinitialize rather than reassign 'self' with
the result of the delegation if it was successfully consumed. Fixes

90f3b554ee Initializer delegation to a foreign initializer must go through class_method.
Initiializer delegation in Swift always calls a peer initializer
directly. However, there are no direct calls for methods defined in
Objective-C, so go through Objective-C's message send. This is a
potential safety hole, because we could end up in a subclass's
initializer.
