a5af302173 [stdlib] RuntimeMetadata: Register newly added "runtime attributes" section 2022-12-20 09:45:01 -08:00

5e6c8b18ba Remove erroneous ELF note.
On ELF platforms we currently output an ELF note but with totally invalid
contents. I tried experimenting to see whether it was possible to do it
properly and tie the result into ReflectionContext, but it turns out to be a
hard problem because of issues to do with cross-segment symbol references and
relocations.

The upshot is that I think for now it's best just to remove it.

We might revisit this in future at some point; it would be good to be able to
reliably find the Swift metadata just from the ELF Phdrs.

84a1ffcb33 [Shims] Include SwiftShims headers without ../
This replaces a number of `#include`-s like this:
```
#include "../../../stdlib/public/SwiftShims/Visibility.h"
```
with this:
```
#include "swift/shims/Visibility.h"
```

This is needed to allow SwiftCompilerSources to use C++ headers which include SwiftShims headers. Currently trying to do that results in errors:
```
swift/swift/include/swift/Demangling/../../../stdlib/public/SwiftShims/module.modulemap:1:8: error: redefinition of module 'SwiftShims'
module SwiftShims {
       ^
Builds.noindex/swift/swift/bootstrapping0/lib/swift/shims/module.modulemap:1:8: note: previously defined here
module SwiftShims {
       ^
```
This happens because the headers in both the source dir and the build dir refer to SwiftShims headers by relative path, and both the source root and the build root contain SwiftShims headers (which are equivalent, but since they are located in different dirs, Clang treats them as different modules).

a8b0ee24dc runtime: blanket application of namespacing and inclusion of new
Apply a blanket pass of including `new` for the placement new allocation
and namespacing the call to the global placement new allocator. This
should repair the Android ARMv7 builds.

4d91b45988 [RemoteMirror] Get spare bit info from reflection records (#40906)
This adds a new reflection record type carrying spare bit information for multi-payload enums.

The compiler includes this for any type that might need it in order to accurately reflect the contents of the enum. The RemoteMirror library will use this if present to determine how to project the contents of the enum. If not present (for example, in older binaries), the RemoteMirror library falls back on an internal calculation of the spare bitmask.

A few notes:
 * The internal calculation is not perfect. In particular, it does not support MPEs that contain other enums (e.g., optionals). It should accurately refuse to project any MPE that it does not correctly support.
 * The new reflection field is designed to be expandable; this might someday avoid the need for a new section.

94ffb3404b Mark swift sections as 1 byte aligned
The C compiler on some platforms (such as s390x) assumes that the
data pointed to by symbols meets certain alignment requirements.
The swift sections do not necessarily meet these alignment
requirements so this change adds alignment attributes to them to
force the compiler to emit the instruction sequences and relocations
required to address unaligned data.

This fixes a 'R_390_PC32DBL target misaligned' warning issued by
gold on s390x.

310bd6be48 [Runtime] Mangle the reference kind in the lower two bits of type references.
The separate section of type references uses the same type reference format
as in protocol conformance records. As with protocol conformance records,
mangle the type reference kind into the lower two bits. Then, eliminate the
separate "flags" field from the type metadata record. Finally, rename
the section because the Swift 5 stable format for this section is
different from prior formats, and the two runtimes need to be able to
coexist.

8c668ba524 [Runtime] Rename the segment for protocol conformance records.
The format of protocol conformance records will be changing in Swift 5, so
rename the segment (from, e.g., __swift2_proto to __swift5_proto) to allow
Swift < 5 and Swift 5+ runtimes to coexist.

0c42b57962 ELF: restructure image metadata registration
Restructure the ELF handling to be completely agnostic to the OS.
Rather than usng the loader to query the section information, use the
linker to construct linker tables and synthetic markers for the
beginning and of the table. Save off the values of these pointers and
pass them along through the constructor to the runtime for registration.

This removes the need for the begin/end objects. Remove the special
construction of the begin/end objects through the special assembly
constructs, preferring to do this in C with a bit of inline assembly to
ensure that the section is always allocated.

Remove the special handling for the various targets, the empty object
file can be linked on all the targets.

The new object file has no requirements on the ordering. It needs to
simply be injected into the link.

Name the replacement file `swiftrt.o` mirroring `crt.o` from libc. Merge
the constructor and the definition into a single object file.

This approach is generally more portable, overall simpler to implement,
and more robust.

Thanks to Orlando Bassotto for help analyzing some of the odd behaviours
when switching over.
