aff457381c Change ApplyInstBase to not try to handle trailing objects itself. NFC.
The goal is to make it more composable to add trailing-objects fields in
a subclass.

While I was doing this, I noticed that the apply instructions provided
redundant getNumArguments() and getNumCallArguments() accessors, so I
went ahead and unified them.

2f1ebf3c51 [pred-memopt] Provide normal succ manipulation methods on TermInst instead of SILBasicBlock.
I am doing this for a few different reasons:

1. The code for manipulating successors was partially in TermInst (with
SILBasicBlock delegating to TermInst) and partly in SILBasicBlock itself. It
makes more sense to just be consistent and move all said functionality into
TermInst and just always delegate to SILBasicBlock.

2. I am preparing an API around gathering all critical edges. All of the
critical edge breaking APIs to take a TermInst. I wanted to use some of the
successor APIs, only to discover that we were not delegating to TermInst. By
moving said functionality onto TermInst itself and delegating, we have it in
both places.

1598a21e43 DI: Warn on non-delegating cross-module struct initializers
...as detected by initializing an individual field without having
initialized the whole object (via `self = value`).

This only applies in pre-Swift-5 mode because the next commit will
treat all cross-module struct initializers as delegating in Swift 5.

333f231bea [sil] Change some methods on SingleValueInstruction to use redeclarations instead of using directives.
lldb is not aware of using directives currently so if you try to invoke the
given methods you will get an ambiguous name lookup error from lldb. These are
important methods for debugging in lldb, so instead in this commit we just
redeclare them and delegate to the appropriate parent class.

that we do not increase the size of SingleValueInstruction while we are doing
it.

latter, also using objc_method for ObjC protocol calls.

831d2eb44b [SwiftPGO] Store branch taken counts in CondBranchInst (NFC)
Update the SILBuilder and other relevant bits of SILGen s.t we pass
along branch taken counts whenever we create conditional branches.

There is a lot of unfinished work here: we need to teach ParseSIL,
DeserializeSIL, and the SILOptimizer about profile data. And add a
stable AST hasher. And add tests for it all.

Let's skip all of that for now. Next, we'll wire in some actual profile
data.

ab3f77baf2 Make SILInstruction no longer a subclass of ValueBase and
introduce a common superclass, SILNode.

This is in preparation for allowing instructions to have multiple
results. It is also a somewhat more elegant representation for
instructions that have zero results. Instructions that are known
to have exactly one result inherit from a class, SingleValueInstruction,
that subclasses both ValueBase and SILInstruction. Some care must be
taken when working with SILNode pointers and testing for equality;
please see the comment on SILNode for more information.

A number of SIL passes needed to be updated in order to handle this
new distinction between SIL values and SIL instructions.

Note that the SIL parser is now stricter about not trying to assign
a result value from an instruction (like 'return' or 'strong_retain')
that does not produce any.

f0a39e9e14 Add support for collecting various SIL optimizer counters
This patch implements collection and dumping of statistics about SILModules, SILFunctions and memory consumption during the execution of SIL optimization pipelines.

The following statistics can be collected:
  * For SILFunctions: the number of SIL basic blocks, the number of SIL instructions, the number of SIL instructions of a specific kind, duration of a pass
  * For SILModules: the number of SIL basic blocks, the number of SIL instructions, the number of SIL instructions of a specific kind, the number of SILFunctions, the amount of memory used by the compiler, duration of a pass

By default, any collection of statistics is disabled to avoid affecting compile times.

One can enable the collection of statistics and dumping of these statistics for the whole SILModule and/or for SILFunctions.

To reduce the amount of produced data, one can set thresholds in such a way that changes in the statistics are only reported if the delta between the old and the new values are at least X%. The deltas are computed as using the following formula:

   Delta = (NewValue - OldValue) / OldValue

Thresholds provide a simple way to perform a simple filtering of the collected statistics during the compilation. But if there is a need for a more complex analysis of collected data (e.g. aggregation by a pipeline stage or by the type of a transformation), it is often better to dump as much data as possible into a file using e.g. -sil-stats-dump-all -sil-stats-modules -sil-stats-functions and then e.g. use the helper scripts to store the collected data into a database and then perform complex queries on it. Many kinds of analysis can be then formulated pretty easily as SQL queries.

9c6fe76927 SIL, IRGen: add instructions "object" and "global_value” to support statically initialized objects.
This commit contains:
-) adding the new instructions + infrastructure, like parsing, printing, etc.
-) support in IRGen to generate global object-variables (i.e. "heap" objects) which are statically initialized in the data section.
-) IRGen for global_value which lazily initializes the object header and returns a reference to the object.

For details see the documentation of the new instructions in SIL.rst.

1ab582e121 SIL: A new representation of static initializers for global variables.
Static initializers are now represented by a list of literal and aggregate instructions in a SILGlobalVariable.
For details see SIL.rst.

This representation is cleaner than what we did so far (point to the initializer function and do some pattern matching).

One implication of that change is that now (a subset of) instructions not necessarily have a parent function.
Regarding the generated code it's a NFC.
Also the swift module format didn't change because so far we don't serializer global variables.

a73fbdb3fe Define a GenericSpecializationInformation class which can be used to track the history of generic specializations
GenericSpecializationInformation contains information regarding how a given specialized function was created, e.g. which caller function triggered this specialization, which substitutions were used, etc. Provide some debugging flags to dump the collected specialization information.

The information about generic specializations is referenced by the specialized functions and by call-sites originating from specialized functions.

This information can be created/used by the generic specializer to detect generic call-sites whose specialization would result in non-terminating sequence of subsequent generic specializations.

4db2a46cff Add SIL instruction: open_existential_box_value.
This has the same semantics as open_existential_box, but returns an object value
instead of an address.

This is used in SIL opaque values mode. Attempting to reuse open_existential_box
in this mode causes SIL type inconsistencies that are too difficult to work
around. Adding this instruction allows for consistent handling of opaque values.

The original versions of several of these currently redundant instructions will
be removed once the SIL representation stabilizes.

f657ad2d3a Rename *ExistentialOpaque instructions to *ExistentialValue.
These instructions have the same semantics as the *ExistentialAddr instructions
but operate directly on the existential value, not its address.

This is in preparation for adding ExistentialBoxValue instructions.
The previous name would cause impossible confusion with "opaque existentials"
and "opaque existential boxes".
